I have had the privilege and opportunity to work in different communities, from the deprived to the very privilege, from rural setting to urban setting in different parts of the country and in all these travels i came to realize that most individuals if not all, who were in need of prescriptive glasses always asked same or similar questions.

And this was irrespective of their background in terms of literacy or finances, it is always not a surprise though because it is not their field even if the person happens to be a literate, i do not expect them to truly comprehend the intricacies of eyecare of its management and so i always use that opportunity to educate my patients and hoping it benefits them. Perhaps they even get to pass it on.

• Will my lenses correct my error?

Now this is a bit tricky and you have to take it well lest they get misinformed and blame you later for their eyes not curing. What we need to know is that lenses are not curative, they don't work like drugs, they are purely refractive, meaning that they follow the laws of physics correct light and dioptric powers not matching up and so long as you wear the lens that error is corrected

And so the appropriate answer to this question is, yes the lenses would correct your error so long as you are wearing it hwoever as soon as it is removed your eye is back to how it is or was and so please do not expect to get an improved vision just because you wear your lenses for some number of years, you would have to wear your lenses for the rest of your life, literally.

• Should I only wear my lens outside? or When can i wear my glasses?

The simple answer is that you can wear it any day anytime, there's no limit to it. Your Optometrist probably gave you that lens so you can see better and so long as vision is required wherever you find yourself you ought to wear your lenses. But please do not sleep with your lenses because you do not need vision when you sleep.

Again, wearing your lens indoors is as fine as wearing it outdoors. If anything wearing it outdoors is very much recommended because you ought to protect your eyes from the ultraviolet rays from the sun which can be detrimental and has the potential to faciliate cataract development under long term exposures.
