That said, let's continue to be safe and do anything we can within our power to be the best we can be at every point in time and support each other's growth. Today we would be focusing on ocular health as it has been with us always and we would be looking at some times for spectacle wearers, I do hope you enjoy the read.

Introduction

Spectacles are no longer a thing for only individuals with refractive errors or particular ocular conditions. Many are wearing it to avoid computer vision syndrome which is a very good thing because prevention is better than treatment whereas others are also wearing or was recommended for them to keep out UV from the eye.

And then some just wanted it for aesthetic purposes, even those individuals still benefit from either the blue-block technology which their optometrist may fit into their lenses or the photochromic tints. Whichever the case may be, most of us if not all of us are wearing glasses and so I am hoping that what we get to discuss today would benefit a whole lot of individuals.

Tips to Maintaining and Lasting Spectacle

Knowing what you can and cannot do to your lens or spectacle is very important as a spectacle wearer as it would make it easier to handle it well as well as treat it right and keep it in the best condition for as long as possible before any change may come about or your Optometrist recommends a new one for you. And so what do you need to know and what should you do?

  • Keep Your Spectacle in Its Case

When it is not in use it is advised that you keep your lenses in their case, it is the reason why it was added to it when your doctor gave it to you. Not only will it keep it the same from accidents but also dust and other environmental factors that may damage it in one way or another.

Over the years of working as an eye care practitioner, I realized that many people come in for new glasses way ahead of their scheduled time. It was mostly due to them sitting on it, it falling down and someone doing something to it accidentally when they weren't wearing it.

Do not leave your glasses on the table thinking that no one is around, you never know what will happen next, as soon as you want to take them off for a while or to do something that you may not need them for, put them in its case right away, do not be in a hurry lest you regret later, upon putting it in its case, please keep it in a safe area.

  • Use the wipes and the cleaning agent

Most often when we dispense lenses to patients we give out cleaning agents that they are to use to keep them clean in addition to cleaning wipes or cloth which they can find in their lens case. In the absence of a cleaning agent, the cloth can be used to remove dirt and other foreign objects from the lens.

Every now and then it is advisable to use the cleaning agent in addition to the cloth to clean the lens, it makes it as clear as new and also helps in maintaining its integrity or quality. In the absence of these, thus assuming your cleaning agent is finished and you are yet to get a new one from your Optometrist, then you could make use of the liquid soap to wash it and then clean it afterward with the cloth.

It is important that your lens stays clear and clean always, put it away from children to avoid scratches, and follow all instructions from your Optometrists just as directed.

Putting On and Removing Your Spectacles

How we put on our glasses and how we remove them contributes a lot to how long they actually last. Most people end up breaking their lenses whiles taking them off or whiles putting them on, simply because they fail to do the right thing which their Optometrist may have already spoken about.

And so please heed this very simple tip or advice to ensure that your lens or spectacle last for a very long time. Whenever you want to put it on or take it off, be sure to use both hands to do that. Hold both sides of the lens with both hands and take them off or put them on gently. Trying to do this with one hand out of flex or because you are in a hurry would only come back to bite you later when you eventually break it.

Conclusion

These may not be much but I can assure you that if you can heed these very simple tips, your lens would last for a very long time whiles maintaining its clarity and quality. Be sure to always get a lens change or review every two years especially if you are wearing it as a result of refractive error.

I am not a fan of wearing spectacles unless they are needed for therapeutic purposes or for cases of preventive health. Most fashion spectacles can cause major eye problems especially when the fashion glasses aren't properly taken care of causing them to have scratches.

Spectacles given by your optometrist even for aesthetics purposes do not cause any harm or damage to you instead they help protect you eyes and act as a prophylactic against future damage it is only when you do not get them from the right source that you put your eyes at risk

Good recommendations for the care of this protective tool for our eyes.

Having a major vision defect and losing or breaking the glasses means that the person will spend a few days of terror by not being at 100% of their abilities, your tips are very important. Thanks.

Spectacles are definitely useful. In my case, they are part of me since I was 6 or 7. As you can read, there is no way I would forget them (despite the fact that without them, I am leaving in a blurred world in which I can barely see my nose). Also, adding a blue light filter 6 years ago changed a lot for me (as I spend my day on a screen, for work).

One interesting thing that happened to me a few weeks ago is that my eye doctor found out my sight improved quite significantly (going from -5.5/-6 to -5/-4.5). Changing my spectacles here solved constant headaches I used to have for months. Of course, this is all my fault. I am supposed to go back to the eye doctor every 2 years, and I do it at most every 5 years (no time, no time, no time... :p).

Cheers!

I’m glad to hear that your sight actually improved by a snellen line, thus quite good, I’d advise you try as much as possible to stick to the 2 year review of your glasses as it could benefit you immensely

It was nice hearing from you Prof, thanks for reading and for your time.

Cheers!
