Technology Revolution | Why Many Will Be Left Behind
As Technology keeps developing and making life easier for people, many people would be left behind just for the simple fact that they can't embrace change.
In my last post, I talked about how people seem to be embracing technology in the wrong way.
At least these people are using it to their advantage, even if it's in a wrong way. But what about those who are not even seeing what's happening and are not involved in this take over from the industrial age?
Honestly, if you're still sleeping on technology thinking it will fade away over time and another thing would replace it, you definitely are setting yourself up for failure.
When we are talking about technology, we are not only talking about machines but also web 3, blockchain, DeFi, AI and many more inventions that are here to make life more easy and better for us all.
Why some people are still in the doubting Thomas phase is still a mystery to me.
Today I went to meet a friend who is into virtual assistance and web design. This friend is one I've seen for over a pong time, but now that we are both back in our hometown, we decided to meet and catch up on things. And also to give each other tips on now to earn and survive in this country.
Anyone who knows Nigeria knows that things are not looking good with the way inflation is fucking up the country as a whole.
Presently, the inflation is at its highest and this seems to be the beginning. Not that I want to be negative or create fear in people's mind, but this is merely the reality of things.
Now that things are costly, the only solution the government has is to increase the minimum wage.
While this is good news to many people, I find it difficult to see it as good news. Assuming the cost of things is not increasing on the hour, then it would have been good. But imagine food stuffs going 4x while the minimum wage goes 2x…the calculation is not yet balanced.
Nevertheless, we cannot all have the same mentality about life as I don't plan to even work for the government right now, neither do I want to in the future.
For this reason, I am continually striving to enter the global market by earning in dollars and find a way to give myself an edge against those earning in the native currency.
If you are to survive and possibly thrive, this is the only way about it if you can't afford to travel out of the country.
Technology is something that people are using to cater for themselves, and this is just the beginning. Imagine where web 3 would have reached 10 years from now. Imagine how Hive would be by then.
Without further ado, I spoke with this friend, and he wanted me to learn more skill which would only cost me data subscription. Today he made around 300 dollars just by creating a website for a client online.
However, his brother, who was close to him, didn't see this as something he pikes to do and neither did he want to venture into anything online. He works a 9-5 pf course, but that's the only thing he's doing to earn a living.
I haven’t even told my friend about Hive yet, but when he saw my enthusiasm about the skill learning process which we went through together today, he is now more than willing to teach me and go in depth.
But I wonder what would happen to his brother who is basically sitting beside a gold mine with no tool in his hand to mine and neither does he have any gold. He's living and surviving now, but what about when he has his family to feed and all? Maybe that's when reality will set in.
Well, I guess we all can't board the train as some people would always be left behind, either we like it or not. But it's sad to keep seeing behavior like this time over time.
The future is here and only those willing to learn will reap the benefits.
