When Reality Shows Lost Their Reality ..

I am a 90s kid . In our time watching television was not a habit but a special moment. At that time TV was not in everyone's home, and even if it was it was not customary to sit in front of it all day. When TV started to be watched gradually the reality shows that were broadcast were a reflection of our society a story of a family. From children to the elderly everyone would sit and watch together. There was love, mutual respect, discipline, laughter joy and a kind of family warmth that brought everyone together.

Now if we say that we don't watch TV anymore then times have changed and habits have also changed. Now a large part of work is centered on mobile and laptops. There is YouTube there are new movies and time is full of online content. Time is not set aside for TV but sometimes when I suddenly see some current reality shows on TV especially some government or mainstream channel programs I find them really unbearable.

The most noticeable thing is that there is no logical continuity in these shows and there is no clear explanation of when and why they are being shown. Instead many things are seen that are unrealistic and anti-social. Disrespect for elders family feuds unnecessary shouting, violence, nudity, all of these are presented in the name of entertainment. What is shown seems to be misleading society more than holding a mirror to it.

This is why I avoid watching these shows. Most of the time I turn off the TV when I get home. And if it is on I feel more comfortable keeping the cartoon channel on. Strange as it may sound the truth is that cartoons seem much more peaceful and bearable to me than these so-called reality shows. At least cartoons do not claim to be real life or pretend to harm the values of society.

Maybe this change is not only in television but also in our society. Maybe the meaning of entertainment has changed moving away from values and connections and now everything is based on surprise and excitement. However as a person who grew up watching the nineties I consciously maintain a distance. Because I want to retain the simplicity and sincerity of that time when entertainment meant being together, laughing together not unbearable noise.
