Little Learners Weekly Inspiration: easy Math activities for preschoolers
Hello everyone!
Today I opened the folder on my computer with all the activities I've done with Caleb over time and ohhh man!! There are so many and there is so much material that I didn't get to share with you here. So I thought it would be a good idea to start now, maybe I can be of any use to some of you. Maybe you can do with your kid at home some of these activities and the ideas I'll give you can actually serve as inspiration.
I will try to sort these the best I can and write my posts so they will be easy to follow.
Although I have tons of photos taken into the process of resolving all these tasks and activities, I think I'll only add a couple of them and try to keep my posts brief and to the point.
Also, I'm going to write a post every week and the title will always sound like this: Little Learners Weekly Inspiration.
This time I found some Math Activities we did in order to reinforce and develop Math skills in early kids. I hope you find something interesting to work for your kids too.
1.Duplo Multiplication Table Practice
First, here's this idea to practice the multiplication table with your kids. I think it's attractive because of the vivid colors of these little blocks. Also the find and match block pieces is fun enough for kids.
I randomly wrote some multiplication exercises on a few removable labels and then stick them to the duplo blocks.
(My kid was three and a half when we tried this.)
In the end, he started to put these blocks in numerical order, as you can see in the second picture down below. Entirely his idea!
2. Numbers & Patterns
In case you're interested in this one, there's this way in order to work both on number recognition and patterns on the same time. More specifically, color recognition patterns.
Caleb had to form the number out of the little blocks, in the same order, with the same colored building block
3. Early Counting and Numbers Recognition
This was more like a Counting from 1-10 and Number Recognition Activity, but I remember I designed this activity intending to test his fine motor skills and concentration skills, see if he has enough patience to put the wire between those handmade colored cylinders in the right order, from 0-10.
(He was around 2 yrs old here.)
In the end, he again found something extra to do. He took these sponge beads and inserted them into each roller, as indicated by the number. (ex: two beads for number 2, 5 beads for number 5) I think it was fun see them how they get down to the ground) |

4. Find the numbers. Sensory Play
This is something we did early, Caleb was under 2 yrs old. I can still remember his joy and excitment when he saw BOTH the beans and the numbers. His eyes got rolling instantly :))
Numbers were his world at that age. Seeing all these photos, I totally feel that time is the most valuable resource humans can have) 😞
That period of time...we played a lot. And Sensory Play was Top 1 to try.
Here's an old post of mine where I wrote about Sensory Play, the best I could.
What is Sensory Play & DIY Colored Beans for sensorial activities
With this activity I only added a few black beans to our sensory table for children we have from Ikea, put numbers from 1-10 as well, I hid them among the beans and then Caleb had to find them! A lot of fun, I'm telling you. It is! For a kid under the age of two....
After finding them, he had to associate them on the paper I prepared before starting the activity. To make it more complex, you can color the dots columns randomly, for example 1-5-8-9-3-6 etc not 1-2-3-4-5 as I did.
What's fun with Sensory Play is that kids find endless way to play with these sensory materials. DO not think our activity stopped here.
❗❗ I only want to say this: if your kids are small, PLEASE, do not let them alone when playing with tiny objects like beans, rice or whatever. Supervize them 100%, or there can happen unfortunate hazzards. I must admit that I was lucky that Caleb wasn't that kid to put all the tiny objects in his mouth. I mean....like ever. But I would have still supervize him and never leave the room when he was involved playing with tiny items.
Well, I think this is all for now and I really hope these four ideas I have shared with you here can be inspiring for you and you can use them with your children.
I think it's like.....in homeschooling, using others' ideas is like trying out new paint colors. Just as artists mix shades to make great art, homeschoolers blend ideas to customize learning. Trying different teaching methods, strategies or curricula can bring fun and energy to lessons. Even simple activities like these ones! Just don't forget to adjust them to your kid's interests and abilities.

This is really interesting and educational. It is nice seeing your kid smart up with numbers at such a young age. With the way the educational system is going now. Homeschooling my children will be nice to try out when I have them. Hehe
Thank you for commenting, appreciate your kind words. I think as parents we do our best to teach them different things, some of them are just naturally happening as it was with numbers for my kid.
You are welcome. Yes, you are right. As parents, it is our duty to give them the best. And it is nice your son came to love numbers
Wow!! So many activities you’ve got there @missdeli. I suck at maths and I wouldn’t want my kids to also suck at it.
These are some good starter packs for kids learning maths.
I don't like Math, at all; but I liked it when in school and at some point it was my favorite 🤣🤢 🤣🤣
My son is 2 years old and I'm finding a new way to teach him...this post is very useful... I'll try learning numbers with blocks 😀
Thank you so much for the great post 🙂
I will share this week some Math activities we did when Caleb was little, under two yrs old. I have a tons of them and I'm sure you can use those!
Wow! Waiting 😍😍
These are very interesting ideas for games!

Thank you!
I always thought that once you have a kid, time tends to pass faster just based on the thing you see your little one growing up so fast making you often forget that the same amount of time also crosses over your life. But at least Caleb is one of the few lucky kids to have such a cool mommy that takes care of the whole time to be well spent. 😍
Yes...these are deep words and feelings, to be honest!🤗 and sometimes you dont realize that time has passed and another 5 yrs of your life passed too...
higs and kisses 💟
Caleb is smart at his age coz you're a great teacher ☺️
