I also recently heard that a cellphone has more computational power than the rocket that took humans to the Moon for the first time. Look, we have so much nowadays, an ability to seek knowledge and apply it in a much easier, far more accessible, and cheaper way. Technology is becoming more widespread, tools are increasingly accessible, and artificial intelligence has become both a blessing and a curse.

A blessing for being something truly surreal. At least for many people, this kind of interaction with a machine borders on the madness of something imagined back in the 90s or 2000s. At least for an ordinary person, someone who does not know this has been in development for so long, looking at artificial intelligence and seeing what it can do is impressive. At least that was the feeling I had, and still have, to be honest. How can so many possibilities be so accessible in this way? How much work can be spared? How many neurons no longer need to be burned by us, since we now have a tool that is creative? Yeah, very creative, at extremely high levels.

Our curse is there too, in that very convenience. I think that by nature, human beings themselves are lazy, perhaps as a primitive mechanism to conserve energy. And who doesn’t feel lazy about thinking when we have a base of ideas ready to be used as a spark for generating something greater through artificial intelligence? We can use a brain far more powerful than our own to generate thousands of alternatives and build so many other things. And then, what will we do with our own brains? They will no longer be stimulated. Too much effort is being handed over to AI. What will happen, if not a human intellectual degradation over the years? What will become of future generations?

There are so many questions. I won’t be here to see what things will look like after a few post-artificial-intelligence generations, but will our greatest invention also become our end? What will become of human capability, of our creativity in developing solutions, creating art, poems, and music, if everything is going through an artificial process of perfection? It is crazy to witness what is happening. I feel a certain excitement seeing the level we have reached, but also a great fear in knowing that this has the potential to strip away all the intellectual evolution built over thousands of years.

It is a contrast to realize that we needed so many years to evolve intellectually to the point of, at our peak, building something so powerful that it may create an intellectual regression. Of course, I may be wrong about this, but logically speaking, perhaps we have already passed our peak and have been regressing for some years now. The previous generation was much stronger intellectually, and the one after ours may be even worse. All of this thanks to technology and the ease it brings, a flood of distractions and such easy ways to store knowledge in artificial memories that our brains are losing their function in many aspects. Maybe I am wrong to think this way. Maybe it is just the impression of a man who has lived through this transition between the pre- and post-technology eras.

In the end, I believe we are replacing our creative capacity and many others to make room for artificial thoughts and ideas. Originality is giving way to combinations of different ideas generated by artificial intelligence, and we are merely recreating something that already existed through ultra-processing. I only hope that, as the years go by, technological evolution does not take away our ability to love, to feel fear, joy, and anguish. That, in the face of everything that is happening, we at least keep our emotions, because if we lose that, it will definitely be our end, since creativity, from what I can see, is already leaving us little by little.

Essa semana escutei em algum lugar sobre como uma criança de 10 anos possui mais conhecimento do que Napoleão, um grande conquistador. Também escutei recentemente que um celular possui mais poder computacional do que o foguete que levou humanos à Lua pela primeira vez. Olha, temos muito nos dias de hoje, uma capacidade de buscar conhecimento e aplicá-lo de forma muito mais fácil, bem mais acessível e barata. A tecnologia está se popularizando, as ferramentas estão cada vez mais acessíveis e a inteligência artificial se tornou uma bênção e uma maldição.

Uma bênção por ser algo realmente surreal. Pelo menos para muitos, esse tipo de interação com a máquina beira a loucura de um pensamento dos anos 90 ou 2000. Nossa maldição está ali também, nessa facilidade. Acho que, por natureza, o ser humano em si tem preguiça, talvez um mecanismo primitivo de poupar energia. E quem é que não tem preguiça de pensar quando temos uma base de ideias para ser usada como estopim na geração de algo maior pela inteligência artificial? Podemos usar um cérebro muito mais potente que o nosso para gerar milhares de alternativas e construir tantas outras coisas. E então, o que faremos com nosso cérebro? Ele não será mais estimulado. Muito esforço é passado para a IA. O que acontecerá, senão uma degradação intelectual humana no decorrer dos anos? O que será das próximas gerações?

São muitas perguntas. Não estarei aqui para ver como vai ser depois de algumas gerações pós-inteligência artificial, mas nossa maior invenção será também o nosso fim? O que será da capacidade humana, da nossa criatividade em desenvolver soluções, criar artes, poemas e músicas, se tudo está passando por um processo artificial de perfeição? É loucura ver o que está acontecendo. É um contraste perceber que nós precisamos de tantos anos para evoluir intelectualmente a ponto de, em nosso ápice, construir algo tão poderoso que poderá criar um regresso intelectual. Claro, pode ser que eu esteja errado quanto a isso, mas pela lógica, já passamos pelo nosso auge e há alguns anos já estamos regredindo. A geração passada era muito mais forte intelectualmente, e a próxima depois de nós será ainda pior. Isso tudo graças às tecnologias e à sua facilitação, chuva de distrações e meios tão fáceis de armazenar conhecimento em memórias artificiais, que nosso cérebro está perdendo sua função em vários aspectos. Talvez eu esteja errado pensando dessa maneira. Talvez seja apenas a impressão de um homem que esteve presente nessa transição pré e pós-tecnologia.
