Pluto, Comets, Asteroids & Banter - Pub Chat

(Edited)
Not sure on the range, but there is a comet more or less, that is on track to pass pluto, hard to tell the distances - looks rather interesting

Just woke up, good morning, was just observing on sky walk.

Not sure if Stellarium is going to have any information, half you lot are American, so I suppose hard for you to correlate

But yes, take a peep when the sky’s up, love this AR tech, full night of cloud cover, and can see through it, we really do need to put it in a pair of shades though (MGI) gets most annoying holding your hand out, Probably link it to an App, for data analysis and what not, as that’s a bit hard with the eye alone, bring up documents and what not, I mean in theory you would do it with voice tech, but we all know how accurate that is (not)

But yes, if you’re in the southern hemisphere, its south and on the horizon, and off to the right.

well, south, in the east, on the horizon, and off to the right, if your using Sky Walk, you should be able to see what I'm looking at, again.

But yeah, it’s going to do a little fly by, on that general trajectory of Pluto, not sure on the depth though.

Could be ages away, still interfacing with the tech, but worth observing.

Comets are much more interesting than Asteroids in some respects, the ice you see, turns to water, etc

So, if your into Pan Spermia theory at all, in any degree of reliability, and to be fair, I think it has a lot of degree of reliability, if you have a microbe, or even, anything really, if it’s in a comet, it’s going to last much longer, than if it’s in an asteroid which is rock

Think a fridge yeah

Don’t get me wrong, asteroids are interesting, but comets are in many respects, particularly for us, kind of interesting
Its water yeah? chemistry happens in a solvent, blah blah

See it would be rather useful, if I had the telescopes, on the roof right now - le sigh

Incidentally, we once tried to build aircraft carriers out of icebergs, but everyone knows that.

I wonder if we could do the same out of hmm I guess not comets would break apart, stands to reason we could do it with comets, or rather Asteroids I should say, Asteroids easy, Comets, little harder

Because it’s always melting, structural integrity issues, in saying that, It occurs to me,

Just as we had the interstellar object, Omoumou i can’t spell the darn thing, nor say it, those things have escape terminal velocity

As and when possible, and I think plans were made to try and intercept them next time if I recall correctly, we should put something on them, presuming we can calculate their predicted trajectories, which, I’m sure we have the ability to do
Not people, of course, but, we could station, some degree of, not telemetry exactly, but, well, hard isn’t it, they have structural issues to.

We have the orbiting technology as is, which we got those samples from Benu, I’m thinking something along the lines, or how you put scanner tech on it, essentially, then if somehow, and this is part I don’t quite know to articulate, I can see it in my mind, like, piece it yes, put it in the centre of the rock, almost, like a pipe,

Seal it

Periscope

like a periscope

Yes, that’s it

So, technical challenge of doing it

very-rough-divider-firstiteration-needswork.png

But you have asteroid, interstellar object, you modify the existing sample retrieve satellite / orbiter, whatever we call them, now you wouldn’t be able to use anything like the rods from god, that would break it apart, however, if we consider, what do they call them, pneumatic drills? something similar to that.

You could land it, and very gently, and precisely, almost like a surgeon, drill simply down, to create the shaft, you would then, have the secondary craft, that would have launched, to rendezvous with it, approach, approximately a short time there after that craft, would contain the piping and the tech.

The first craft, that did the drilling, would then either take flight to get out of the way, or, alternatively, rove away, or, hop away, any variation of combination of technology would be fine, it just has to get out of the way once its jobs done drilling the shaft

The secondary craft, would package the piping just like a traditional age of sail telescope, the whole, pull it out, push it in in thing, it would land, which would be quite challenging I must admit, given the speeds and precise requirements, but, in the realm of mathematical principles it is possible.

So, it would land, on the point of the shaft and deploy steel or equivalent, probably tungsten, into the shaft, it would then, essentially, have rails, inside, and then at the end of the shafting, as it unpacks, it would place, the observing eye
or equivalent, the precise method of this part I can’t articulate, absence of engineering and technical knowledge, so it’s not in my head, however, you get the general concept.

The question I have, is how one would possibly, send and receive transmissions at such vast distances, to my knowledge, not possible, via radio,

it could in principle be pre-programmed, to the observations, but by having such a device, we could get closer, atmospheric and exo-planetary or exo-solar data

And it would actually in a realm of principle be rather interesting from cosmic anthropological point of view, because, it would for all intents and purposes, simply appear to be a comet or asteroid, it would not disrupt the natural order of anything observed, It would be a very, complicated mission, however, if done correctly, fascinating data and observational requirements.

Also, useful military application actually, you could almost have backup redundancy well, insert what you want backup redundancy of here yes?

Anyway, then yes, for the most part, the asteroid or comet, just goes about doing its natural thing, and when its passing by something, or general approximation, up goes the periscope, probably not going to be terribly useful in the optic, but, in radio, or other spectrographic frequencies, takes a look about, gathers some samples, and then the technical challenge, how does it broadcast it back to earth?

Call me crazy, but I’m thinking about quantum entanglement,

Seems to me that would be the only way to do it, in a timely manner

So, the next question would be, how, do you do, data packet transmission with quantum entanglement

And just now, that, I do not know,

But I do know, it’s time for a game, and probably a glass of scotch, right then

Star Citizen, apparently still broken, so evidently not that.

As for the Green eyes? you are all aware that is an entirely different, unique, genetic line yeah? And you know I pick people by eyes, retina scanning, don't get me wrong, there is a lot of substance to the metaphoric "gateway to the soul" in eyes, sadly I have brown eyes, but if you stare long enough, you will realize they are black, but I do love my green eye girls, probably the most, one of the most unique genetic propagations on earth, scientific fact, but I don't discriminate, its just a pet thing of mine, some people like blue, personally, green eyes are my favourite, which is strange yes? since green is one of my most disliked colours, well, in art, and palette, it means one thing, in the eyes, it means something totally different, perhaps my eyes were green at some stage, perhaps diluted with genetic splicing (Sire and Dame), yes I like the aesthetics of my blonde girls, but I love my Ravens with there green eye glaze, they, are the strongest, if you didn't know, but hey, hair is hair and eyes have contacts and all that stuff these days, green eyes are like a magnet for me, its like "Oh, one of mine, Hai"

Oh and Loki, can you get the hell out of my waters before I blast you to pieces? cheers thanks ta, and thats just me being polite, yes, we can see you, leave or ... the alternative, you actually thought you could mess with Pluto? mate, calm the farm, get out of my waters, and come have a drink on Telesto, but please, get out of my waters.
