Coffee & Achernar - Philosophy, Science & Warm Beveridge's

It is amazing how a piece of music, and a warm beverage can encompass a moment don’t you think? 4:00am, awake bright and early, and take a look out my window at the lovely star Achernar while making a coffee to cliché coffee shop jazz music playlists.

And the artist has to but wonder philosophically, was it the coffee that created the music or the music that created the coffee, or was it instinctual habit itself, or a combination of all of the above.

At times, it is often the sweet subtle nature of the backdrops of both vices and sweets that can make the moment reflective in its humility.

A soft guitar, gentle jazz, coffee brewing away in the cup, and yet it is highly addictive! Coffee, for all we talk about the trade of spices and rum and all other nautical notions of history, the tea and coffee trade was equally as important in history!

And yet, just like mixology, it in and of itself, is simple chemistry, now to taste, my instant freeze-dried coffee purchased from the local supermarket is delightfully fulfilling to my pallet, but there really can be no beating a proper, coffee shop café.

Tis a shame there are none in my town itself, but how many people waking up, or about to wake up will flick on that kettle and enjoy themselves a fine brew, or shortly to find themselves on a stroll to visit their local barista,

I would hazard a guess, probably the greater majority of people, that sweet brown bean, grown from a plant, then shipped across the ocean to a world half a way so you can sip it and get some zen in your step along your way to work, or wherever the day takes you.

Quite remarkable really, the story it has told, all before it even reaches you, from the advanced cultivation techniques that brought it into existence, the hopefully ethical farming, processing plants, logistics and distribution, trucks, personnel, loading docks, unloading docks.

Your coffee, has had the most remarkable journey, all before it even reaches your cup, and in a moment, if your nostalgic like myself, you throw on a piece of music and enjoy it.

And perhaps for some individuals finishing their shift, a dash of the old Irish cream after a day of work with the washing to now do at 5:00am in the morning to get ready for tomorrows shift!

Coffee, has been a backdrop to so much history, to so many events, to so much artwork, and of course that little bean has been privy and the catalyst for the spark of so much academic thought across the ages it staggers comprehension.

Hot water, a roasted bean, dash of milk, little bit of sugar, in a cup.

And yet so much of human civilization, innovation, philosophy or otherwise, was complimented by the invigorating drink!

As I passed by my window in the early hours of the morning, looking out to what my star watching application identified as Achernar glowing away in the distance, I cant help but muse, that humanity will one day go out to the stars, and somewhere, at some when, there will be a logistics captain of a starship or otherwise, delivering the morning coffee, and a barista making it for someone, just as has been done for hundreds of years, and will no doubt, be done for thousands more.

The simple pleasures of planet earth, yet we forget just how much work, effort and toil goes into making it, yet if you stop, for just a moment, to appreciate the complexities of it all, its quite reflective.

Whatever you do today, enjoy you coffee 😊
