Deepfakes In Everyday Life: Risks, Benefits and Responsibility
For real, we learn everyday. I didn't know there's a name for things that are used in place of the actual thing. I've only heard of doppelgangers but never deepfake until this prompt and it got me curious that I had to browse it up to be sure of what I'm up to write on. Thankfully, it's something I've been familiar with until I learnt of the name.
Deepfakes have always been a part of our world but it got more refined, more rampant and have more impact since the rise of artificial intelligence. I didn't realize I was having a deepfake of myself when I generated a picture of myself using AI generators. It's what is trending now, people creating similar things and humans.
Regarding deepfake being a dangerous technology, I would say I'm not fully aware of how they can be dangerous but I know one of the dangers can be deceit and increased confusion and competitions between the real and the fake. Aside that and any other dangers they may have that I'm not aware of, I'll share their good sides.

For entertainment and educational purposes: I've seen a lot of fakes in the movies for the purposes of entertainment and educational clips to teach people. It's amazing how the fakes look so much like the original, making the movies worth seeing with no thought of, this is so fake. In learning trending hacks on YouTube, deepfakes are used.
For Privacy and social impact: I must say deepfake are a total game changer for anyone who wants to keep their privacy intact in a public space especially for some content creators who'd prefer not to show their real faces or identity. Deepfake has helped in this aspect and it still is. People can now stay anonymous and bring value.
For Healthcare and research: I actually just learnt of this one today while I was researching on what deepfake are. It would be amazing if this is going on already, using deepfake to treat mentally challenged patients like the alzheimer's patients who would need younger versions of their loved ones to help them communicate, deepfake helps.
For accessibility and communication: I'm not how really cool this advantage is but for musicians who have lost their voice or about to, I read there is an AI generator that could create a synthetic voice which will maintain their unique tone and accent for them to continue communicating their unique music and styles.
There's even the deepfake in customer service for swift response. The case of emergency calls, there is also the fake responses to keep things in check while humans are busy. Not sure how that is a good one but there must be some way to go about easing tensed or emergency situations using a similar to the original for the situation.
If deepfakes are used well, they have more advantages than the downsides which I think the humans are the ones making these downsides surface. Conclusively, deepfakes have their good sides that should be considered regardless of their bad sides. Although, a balance is needed.
