Garden envy

I spend so many cold winter days pouring over the seed catalogs that arrive just after Christmas that when summer finally gets here and plants are growing and flowers are blooming, I appreciate every single one of them and the effort and love that goes into growing a beautiful garden.

I only wish these were my flowers, but they are not.

dahlia

My lovely daughter in law knows how much I love seeing all these beauties, and I'm so glad that she thinks of me and sends me photos of the flowers she finds when she is out walking the dogs.

hollyhocks

Raindrops on roses, and I can't help but begin to sing the My Favorite Things song from The Sound of Music!

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things…

roses

digitalis-foxglove

ecinachia-coneflowers

Most of these plants require far more sunlight than what I have available here in my shady wooded garden. I will continue to dream over garden catalogs and appreciate the loveliness of other people's gardens!

Now you have an amazing flower garden! I love Foxglove but never grew it because I was afraid the stupid dog would try to eat it. Hollyhocks are really pretty too. Nothing like a beautiful flower garden to brighten up your mood and the yard!

Raindrops made me sing raindrops keeps falling down my head

Your daughter in law had a great walk for sure seeing these lovely flowers along! Though at first I thought it was yours as I know you are living close to nature.

Quoting Rodgers and Hammerstein again 🙂 Fun flower photos. I have all of those growing except the hollyhocks. I got some dahlia bulbs from a neighbor and they are just starting to bloom. They have to be dug up in the fall and kept inside for the winter in Vermont. I don't know if I will do that or just call them annuals and keep it simple lol

I gave my dahlias to my daughter. Her garden gets much more sun than mine does and they were not doing well at my house. Digging them each fall was no longer an option for me. They are lovely as annuals, too!
