An apple a day

As September begins those of us up north are beginning to see signs that summer is ending.

September is known as Harvest Month. Tomatoes are ripening, it will soon be time to dig onions, and APPLES!
Many varieties are becoming ready to be picked. Teachers will be planning class trips for younger pupils and taking them to visit local orchards.

Baked apples are a great dessert for this time of year.

You can stuff the apples with raisins, dried cranberries, nuts and maybe a dash of cinnamon and a bit of brown sugar.

They smell wonderful while baking and for me they bring back lots of childhood memories.
Baking takes 30-45 minutes depending on the size of the apple

You can also sprinkle a bit of confectioners sugar on top.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away!

originated in Wales in 1866 as “Eat an apple on going to bed, and you'll keep the doctor from earning his bread”. The phrase evolved over time, appearing in its current form in 1913 and becoming commonly used in 1922.

It's still roasting here. I'm back in the UK at last lol. Those apple dishes look scrumptious and reminds me of Austria and Germany. They have loads of apple pies, strudel etc.

It is a dessert that my German grandmother made during apple season. Sometimes served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream

That was a wonderfully long holiday! But it's always good to return home

Wow, this looks really delicious! Personally, I haven't tried it yet, but I’ll definitely give it a try when I have the chance 😁.

Looks delicious but adding too much of a sweet version might bring the doctor a visit for some, hehe. I haven't tried apples this way but you make them look good 😁

You don't have to add additional sweetness, a few nuts and cinnamon would be delicious!

I love the taste and smell of apples cooking! You've given me an idea for the fall season that is upon us soon. I will enjoy giving the baked apples you've shown, a try.

Thanks for sharing @melinda010100! Take care!

I love apples. My favorite types of apples are Ambrosia and Granny Smith.

Apples are also one of the fruits that have quite a delicious taste. In my area, apples are more expensive than other fruits.Despite this, there are still many people interested in apples.

I think apple is the only thing that is both delicious and healthy but not harmful.😁

I think I like the Welsh version better 🙂 delicious looking baked apples! we always end up with way too many apples and make apple butter with them. At least thats what we call it, we just bake them with some spices and then run them through the food processor. Also delicious but not as fun as your baked apples.

Baked apple 🍎 must taste as you say - great. Over here, we eat apples the way they are but this recipe of baking them and stuffing them with nuts should taste much better.

We didn't have baked apples growing up, but as a young adult, I saw a recipe to make some, with the center hollowed and filled with raisins, nuts and all that. I tried it and they were SO delicious ! It's making me want to bake some now.

I didn't know where the "apple a day" saying came from. Now I do !

They are much easier than making an apple pie! Especially when cooking for one!
