Internet adoption in Ghana.

When compared to the rest of the globe, Africa has a lower absorption of the internet. Observable indicators like the percentage of ISP subscribers, overall amount of hosts, and total accessible bandwidth all demonstrate that Africa is lagging.

This happens simply because telecommunications in Africa are still in their beginning stages of development, despite having one of the world's highest growth rates. There are few products and barriers to internet use and adoption in Ghana and other regions of Africa. Today, I share with my readers an experience I had when visiting the MTN facility in Ghana. MTN is one of Ghana's most powerful and prominent telecom companies. Many individuals join lines in order to get a router or modem that will allow them to connect to the internet. However, internet use in Ghana is heavily influenced by its patronage.

Most consumers cannot afford the data plans provided by mobile network companies and ISPs. It is not extremely expensive to use, but it must be used as much as possible, for example, video streaming and large downloads. This restricts internet access to locations where it is free. Using portable devices, data bundles are utilised to service most low-data-usage social media demands.

These exorbitant charges, in my opinion, are due to the country's poor internet infrastructure penetration rates. In this way, widespread adoption will lower pricing. Despite the hurdles and issues associated with internet use in Africa, I am encouraged to see a growing number of young people making the internet their home on a daily basis.

I strongly believe that with time, Africa as a whole will adopt internet more. Our youth are doing so well and the future is brighter than we think.

The growth rate of Internet usage is actually encouraging especially among the young population. The competition there is in the provision of internet amenities, the better. In my country, MTN is still leading, but hardly dominating. Glo, 9Mobilie, Airtel are very competitive with similar data plans and airtime subscription. Am sure in the next 5 years, the internet will be more available and accessible in Africa than it is now @mcsamm
