Seeing Isn't Believing Anymore.

Okay. So, about few months ago, I watched a movie. I can't really recall what the title was. It happened that in one of the scenes of the movie, some powerful people were being brought together to a place, more like they were held hostage. These include the president and some other tip officials. Long story short, it happened that they were each given something to read out while being recorded. At the end of the day when those who held them hostage were to post the recorded video, it was something else entirely. It was still these people that were talking, I mean this top officials. But it happened that what they read out in the book gave to them was different from what they were saying in the recorded video.

In the recorded video, they were saying things they didn't actually say. And it so followed the way they opened and clos d their mouth. And guess what, it has gone viral and the public had already believed it. What I am trying to bring out of this is the fact that deep fake can look so real. And it's something that's happening in our world today. We all know it's one of the things technology has brought with it. People now go about creating fake videos, images and all and it will look so so real. And sincerely, even if you look closely you will hardly be able to tell if it's real or fake.

Today, you can be in your room sleeping, while it can be portrayed via the internet using deep fake that you're in a closed meeting with the Senate president and that you actually joined in the dinner organized and hosted by the First lady of the federation. You will just find yourself receiving some handshake and hugs with others at the banquet you were never at. And the rate at which such spreads are very alarming.

Just yesterday I was going through Facebook and I saw a Lady dressed in her NYSC khaki and guess who was beside her, Christiano Ronaldo. Yes, Christiano Ronaldo was standing right beside her also dressed in the same khaki. Today, we find various people trending by just faking a handshake or picture pose with a celebrity. And of a truth, some of these are harmless, but some aren't. Some can destroy, mislead, cause chaos and all. A few days ago, I saw VDM debunking the image that was circulating about him and Dangote. That image look so real. It was even taken in his new office. Not long after that, there was another of him and Tinubu(the president of Nigeria) circulating the internet. He debunked that too. It was clearly deep fake, yet it looks so real.

Well, the truth remains that there's always advantages and disadvantages of things, just depends on how and what it's been used for. Deepfake can be used for good, it can be used in the movie industry, it can be used for learning and academic purposes, it can be used in various places. In short, the way we make use of it is the problem, either it's been used to cause mischief, chaos, spread falsehood and all, or it's been used for good.
