I very well agree with you on this.
Best option is to keep both. And I especially love the example you cited showing how that people might get scammed and all through digital means of payment. I've also experienced that, and just last week as well I experienced another with cash, someone bought goods using fake naira. And this old woman couldn't tell if it was original or not.
