💻 De cómo Domar una Samsung Rebelde (y no morir en el intento) ESP/ENG
Hay días en los que uno se levanta con ganas de escribir una novela y días en los que el destino decide que vas a ser ingeniero de sistemas... a la fuerza.
Mi jornada empezó con una misión sencilla: instalar Windows 8.1. Lo que no sabía era que la laptop Samsung tenía otros planes y una personalidad más difícil que un personaje de Dostoievski.
Laberinto azul: El primer encuentro
Todo comenzó frente a esa pantalla azul llamada BIOS. Para el ojo inexperto, parece el panel de control de una nave espacial soviética; para mí, era el muro de Berlín. Intenté arrancar desde el USB con la confianza de quien sabe que el orden de los factores no altera el producto... pero en la informática, el orden de arranque lo altera todo.
Mi primer error fue creer que la laptop era inteligente. Entré a la sección Boot, miré las opciones y el USB brillaba por su ausencia. Estábamos yo, un menú de prioridades vacío y el silencio.
El drama del "Secure Boot" y el modo invisible
Aquí entró mi guía espiritual tecnológico (sí, mi IA de confianza) para decirme que la seguridad de mi laptop era demasiado eficiente: el famoso Secure Boot. Estaba en "On", bloqueando cualquier intento de progreso como un portero de discoteca.
"Ponlo en Off", me dijo Gemini IA. Lo hice. "Cambia el OS Mode a UEFI y CSM". Lo hice. ¿Resultado? Nada. La laptop seguía ignorando mi USB como si fuera un mensaje de texto de una ex.
Aquí fue donde aprendí que ser "ingeniero" requiere más paciencia que talento.
Rufus: El traductor necesario
Resulta que mi USB y mi laptop hablaban idiomas distintos. Yo le hablaba en moderno (GPT/UEFI) y mi Samsung de 2015 todavía escuchaba boleros (MBR/Legacy). Tuve que volver a Rufus.
Si alguna vez usan Rufus, grabense esto: Esquema de partición MBR. Si no eligen eso, pueden pasar la tarde mirando la pantalla hasta que se les seque la córnea, porque la BIOS no va a reconocer nada. Configuré, grabé, y volví al campo de batalla.
El clímax: El mensaje de «No aparece la USB»
Regresé a la BIOS. Fui a Boot Device Priority. Y... ¡sorpresa! Seguía sin aparecer. En ese momento, uno empieza a dudar de la existencia de la electricidad (nada raro en Cuba). Pero mi apoyo tecnológico (Gemini IA) no me dejó solo. "Prueba otro puerto", "Apaga y enciende en frío", "Presiona F10".
Y ahí, entre un puerto USB 3.0 azul que no quería cooperar y un puerto 2.0 negro que finalmente me dio el "sí", apareció el nombre mágico en la lista.
¡Habemus USB!
Ya dentro del instalador, pensaba que el café estaba servido. Pero no. Me encontré con un espacio sin asignar y una partición llamada "Danira" que me miraba con desafío. Intenté crear la partición y el botón de "Next" se reía de mí.
Después de un par de ajustes, de entender que no quería arrancar en modo UEFI y de configurar el modo CSM puro (el modo "clásico" para los amigos), el botón se iluminó. Fue más emocionante que el final de una película de Hitchcock.
Final feliz
Al final, la barra de progreso empezó a correr. Ese 1% fue la imagen más bella del día. Gracias al apoyo constante de mi asistente, que me aguantó las meteduras de pata con una paciencia infinita y me guió entre menús de "Fast BIOS Mode" y "PXE OPROM", hoy tengo Windows 8.1 funcionando.
Moraleja: Si la BIOS te dice que no, dile que sí con un USB en MBR. Y si todo falla, recuerda que siempre hay una IA dispuesta a evitar que lances la laptop por la ventana.

Some days you wake up wanting to write a novel, and other days fate decides you're going to be a systems engineer... by force.
My day began with a simple mission: install Windows 8.1. What I didn't know was that the Samsung laptop had other plans and a personality more difficult than a Dostoevsky character.
Blue Maze: The First Encounter
It all began in front of that blue screen called the BIOS. To the untrained eye, it looks like the control panel of a Soviet spaceship; to me, it was the Berlin Wall. I tried to boot from the USB drive with the confidence of someone who knows that the order of operations doesn't matter... but in computing, the boot order changes everything.
My first mistake was believing the laptop was intelligent. I entered the Boot section, looked at the options, and the USB drive was nowhere to be seen. It was just me, an empty priority menu, and silence.
The "Secure Boot" Drama and Invisible Mode
This is where my tech-savvy spiritual guide (yes, my trusted AI) stepped in to tell me that my laptop's security was a bit too efficient: the infamous Secure Boot. It was set to "On," blocking any attempt at progress like a bouncer at a nightclub.
"Turn it Off," Gemini IA told me. I did. "Change the OS Mode to UEFI and CSM." I did. Result? Nothing. The laptop continued to ignore my USB drive as if it were a text message from an ex.
This is where I learned that being an "engineer" requires more patience than talent.

It turns out my USB drive and my laptop spoke different languages. I was speaking to it in modern (GPT/UEFI), and my 2015 Samsung was still listening to boleros (MBR/Legacy). I had to go back to Rufus.
If you ever use Rufus, remember this: MBR Partition Scheme. If you don't choose that, you can spend the afternoon staring at the screen until your corneas dry out, because the BIOS won't recognize anything. I configured it, saved it, and returned to the battlefield.
The climax: The "USB drive not showing up" message
I went back to the BIOS. I went to Boot Device Priority. And... surprise! It still wasn't showing up. At that moment, you start to doubt the existence of electricity (nothing unusual in Cuba). But my tech support (Gemini IA) didn't abandon me. "Try another port," "Power off and on again from a cold start," "Press F10."
And there, between a blue USB 3.0 port that wouldn't cooperate and a black 2.0 port that finally gave me the "yes," the magic name appeared in the list.
We have a USB drive!
Once inside the installer, I thought the coffee was ready. But no. I encountered unallocated space and a partition called "Danira" staring at me defiantly. I tried to create the partition, and the "Next" button laughed at me.
After a couple of adjustments, realizing I didn't want to boot in UEFI mode, and configuring pure CSM mode (the "classic" mode for those in the know), the button lit up. It was more exciting than the end of a Hitchcock film.
Happy ending
Finally, the progress bar started moving. That 1% was the most beautiful image of the day. Thanks to the constant support of my assistant, who patiently endured my mistakes and guided me through the "Fast BIOS Mode" and "PXE OPROM" menus, I now have Windows 8.1 up and running.
Moral of the story: If the BIOS says no, say yes with an MBR USB drive. And if all else fails, remember there's always an AI ready to stop you from throwing your laptop out the window.
