Digital Wellbeing | How to Take Care in Online World
Hello Readers,
We as Humans have evolved a lot from our initial characteristics and within a short period of time frame, we have upgraded ourselves so much that we are literally living in an artificial online world where we spend time on a daily basis and do various types of activities that is hard to count these days. We have to agree on one fact every one of us spends a lot of time online and on a daily basis - whether it is chatting with our friends, family or colleagues, playing games or just scrolling through social media for entertainment or just killing boring time. But have we ever thought for a second about how all these screen times really affect us?
DIGITAL WELLNESS
Yes, That is where the crucial role of digital wellness comes in our lives. In simple words, Digital wellness is all about making sure that we use technology in such a way that actually helps us to stay healthy and happy, both mentally and physically. Often we spend time on social media and browse through countless updates or interesting things about other people. But do you know, that when we are active on social media, our brain is passively doing a very important job silently - comparing ourselves to what we see on that screen?
Now, respecting the Social Comparison Theory, this comparison plays a crucial role in how you actually see yourself within you and how happy you feel from inside. Seeing other people’s lives, which often look perfect online with lavish style or apparel or flaunting money can sometimes make you feel like you are not doing as well in your life or are not as successful as them for any reason. But do not worry, believe me, what I say is there is no one who is perfectly happy in their lives especially just by possessing materialistic things, but there are ways to keep yourself feeling good and in control. Now as we have talked through the basics of well-being, Allow me to share how I maintain my digital wellness below.
1. Setting Screen Time Limits
If you really want to bring change in your life, one of the easiest ways to take care is by simply setting limits on how long you spend online or on screen. Just like we have a bedtime, having "screen time" helps ensure you are not going too late staring at a screen, be it a PC or phone. I often set alarms to remind myself to take breaks and do something else whenever I am using PC or phone Continuously, especially when I am playing games and I do activities like playing board games with family, reading a book or going outside to spend time With my friends.
2. Care of What I Post and See
As I have a long experience of using social media or playing games and chatting in-game or in their servers, every time I post something online, I always think about how it might make others feel about it and how it reflects on myself as well. I also remember that what I see on social media is not the full story of someone’s life and in reality, every Human is always facing something or dealing with certain problems in their lives. People often share their best moments on social media just to look cool and gain attention, not always the true ones happening in their lives. Keeping this in mind helps me not to compare myself to others. Be happy and stay confident in who I am and what I have.
3. Choosing Positive Content
I always keep a keen eye on what I want to see on my social media feed and what to follow and focusing on following accounts and people who post positive, helpful and inspiring content. As I am interested in crypto and hive, I follow these types of related accounts on X while on YouTube, I prefer to watch news, movie trailers and a few favourite creators related to finance or entertainment. This way, my feed is filled with things that either make me smile and feel about myself or get knowledge about finance and crypto. It is like getting the true ability to choose to hang out with friends who actually make you happy rather than those who bring you down or with no similar interests.
4. Practicing Digital Detox Days
Sometimes but rarely though, I try to take a break from all screens for some Hours in a day, especially from noon onwards after quickly finishing all my online work. These "digital detox hours" help me reconnect with the real world and spend more time doing things I enjoy offline, like playing board games, spending time outside with family or just hanging out at local food stalls or having a gold dinner at restaurants with my family. It is always refreshing for me and works every time to go back to the digital world while feeling more balanced.
5. offline talking to real People
Whenever I feel overwhelmed with the crypto market charts or get stressed by what I see or experience online, I rather switch off and go for a time out with my friends or with my family outside. Talking to someone close or who I trust like a friend, parent or rather my wife always helps in these times and helps me cool down and on the other hand, It also helps me get connected with real people for social interaction.

It's so true brother, spending too much time online can affect how we feel about ourselves. I try my best to set limits and focus on positive content to keep a healthy balance. Offline time with loved ones is so important too.
