What's New in Prusa Slicer 2.8
The new Prusa Slicer has some cool new features and changes that I think you'll find interesting, even if you don't use the software directly (seeing as many others use Prusa Slicer as an open source foundation).
User Interface (UI) Changes:
The first thing you'll notice is the new look of the user interface. In version 2.7, there was an operating system menu at the top. Now, in 2.8, there's a menu button with a logo instead. I personally like this change, but it does mean that the Alt key shortcuts (like pressing Alt to highlight the menu) won't work the same way anymore. But don't worry, Pusia Slicer has its own set of shortcuts you can learn.
Speed Visualization:
This is the coolest new feature for speed freaks. After you slice a model and go to the preview, you can now see the actual speed of the printer with colors. To access this, you need to select "Actual Speed" from the drop-down menu in the preview screen. This is different from the old speed preview because it also shows acceleration.
Why is this important?
When the printer moves, it can't change speed instantly because of physics. This new feature shows you how the speed changes over time, including acceleration and deceleration.
There's a new graph at the bottom that shows these speed changes. The slope represents acceleration, the flat part is constant speed, and the downward slope is deceleration. You can even hear these changes if you listen closely to the printer.
Profiles are organized in repositories
Having profiles in repos allows for more targeted updates. Updates can also be installed offline via downloadable files.
Better Seams
The algorithm for placing seams has been improved to resolve various issues from previous versions. The new implementation promises a more aesthetically pleasing seam placement, especially for simple cylindrical models.
Single Perimeter on Top and Bottom:
This feature was first seen in Super Slicer and Orca Slicer. It's now in Prusa Slicer and makes the top and bottom layers look nicer. This is mostly for cosmetic purposes but can be useful if you want your prints to look really good.
Other New Stuff:
Other new features ...
- A lot of UI tweaks and redesigned layout, making it easier to use.
- The filament change button (+ button) is now easier to click.
- There are new stats available, like flow rate and speed, shown as numbers. This is super helpful because you no longer have to guess from the color legend on the preview.
- Support for heated print chambers
- Material shrinkage compensation
- Extended command line options for profile selection.

It seems like THEMARKYMARK is dealing with some personal drama and mental issues, which might be causing them to spam us and others with baby pics, GIFs, and questionable content he's been doing the same for years. The fun doesn't stop there, as this seems to be a recurring theme with multiple online personas. The real question is, do we want to trust these drama-magnets with our hard-earned funds or any significant influence on Hive?
