Cable Matters, Finding Reliable Cable For Robust Connectivity
These days, even buying a USB cable feels like entering a jungle. It’s quite unknown territory where you can feel overwhelmed and confused. While these days there are commonly two types USB for smartphones which is micro USB or type C, it doesn’t just stop there. In the market, you can find keywords such as lightning, fast charger, rugged, and even down to the material that coats the cable, either nylon, kevlar, silicone, and even PVC. As a customer, we just want our device to be charged or connected yet such marketing techniques exist and it could also affect the pricing of said cable.
For example, where I am from, one of the most expensive type C cables is from Anker. It is said to be premium braided and support high speed charging. When I was on the market, I was considering getting that one because I know that brand is pretty reliable and well-known for accessories. But again, there’s also a cheapskate version of me who would choose the cheapest options possible. Who would pay more than $12 for a type C cable when you can even find $1 cable on the market?
However, since durability as well as robust connectivity is something I am looking for, I was on the market for something in the middle. I ended up getting “ transformers” cable type C from thinkplus, lenovo. I am not sure with the former price but I got it less than $3 from the actual $10 cable. This cable that you see below is made with Thermoplastic Elastomer which apparently is a more eco-friendly option than other coating cable options out there. It’s called transformers because both of the ports have transformer logos.
Personally, the cable is slightly too bulky when compared to the original Samsung charger. Considering how I tend to twist the cable, this one is pretty untwistable. It’s like the same material as hose that if you twist it, it won’t end up as poorly as the original samsung cable. When I tried charging with it, I am not sure if lightning is the word they should be using when advertising this product. It also has 480Mbps data transfer that I don’t think I’d be even using that one too.
There are certainly more well-known brands out there, but this one has been the most reasonably priced as well as serving its purpose compared to the brands out there. The pricing might be some marketing trick but it makes sense that considering the coating of the cable and the port, it should be higher than $5 when compared to brands like Robot, Oraimo and similar brands.

I never knew this struggle until I came to Armenia. In England there are so many good brands to choose from that buying any tech is the easiest thing ever. Here, however, it's the hardest thing ever going through random literal who brands and Chinese trash. I've been needing cables for weeks and I just haven't purchased any. I suspect I'll just have to import something I know I can trust.
hahaha yeah, that's what happens around here. There are so many brands competing with each other and here, we also have local brands too. So, it's a lot more difficult to choose than if you only have a few good brands like Anker or Aukey in the market. Don't you have those brands over there? what about like local marketplace?
There aren't really any major brands here for anything at all. I quite like it for that, but yeah with tech it's certainly a bit more difficult to find trustworthy products.
A lot of people just use companies to import tech here, or use a service called WildBerries which is like Russia's Amazon which operates here also.
Competition and demand make the customer make a previous research even to buy a cable.
I think you made a good choice for all the details that you expose, at first glance it looks tough, it is good and cheap 😆.
I am hoping it actually is tough. From the port and to the cable, I am giving it a year or two at least. These days you have to research things before even buying haha
Congratulations!

You are right it is quite a jungle trying to buy a good cable of excellent quality although many times the low priced ones are usually bad there are always some exceptions.
But this one you bought looks pretty good even aesthetically it looks pretty amazing it reminds me a lot of my childhood.
haha yeah! we pretty much grew up with transformers. I actually have one Oraimo cable and they work pretty well so far. Usually, they are priced less than $3 but I have to say these days chinese manufacturers make their products better these days.
It is true that there are famous brands, for example Anker that are quite good, but the one you bought looks interesting, has a good transfer rate and an interesting material, in addition to the details of Transformers.
Yep, anker product is pretty reliable, infact the most reliable I've ever had. Sadly, sometimes the budget just don't cut it haha. That one is pretty decent
Personally, I'll look for something that has guaranteed support for my phone's features. Xiaomi put a 67W charging feature in this phone, and so far the only cable I know that works with it is Xiaomi's own cable that came with the phone. Although I'm quite positive that other cables can also support it! I just haven't found one yet (nor am I finding one, the current one is still working great).
Other than that it's all about durability I think. Cable durability always reminds me of iPhone cables. You know what I mean...
I only had a few xiaomi's product and never its smartphone. So, I am not so sure how it works but I am just guessing it would work even if you don't buy original xiaomi's cable. But yes, durability matters too, for me with cables is often something that can be twisted without getting broken :D like that one cable from the phone is actually just less than 2 years old haha
I was completely unaware of USB cables that were good for the environment, it looks very nice aesthetically speaking. I have bought many times USB cables and most of them that are from unrecognized brands have not performed as they should 😢, I sure have had a lot of bad luck 😂.
haha there are some extreme options at the market where they really focuses on environmental friendliness.
