Is AI Responsible For IBM Layoffs?
IBM is a tech giant and recently it did a big layoff and that is why it is in the headlines It has continued its staff reduction of last year. It has laid off staff from two divisions And these divisions are marketing and communication. According to the source's information, IBM’s chief communication officer Jonathan Adashek announced a staff layoff in that 7 minutes, and this was shocking for the employees because this was a sudden decision. And communication officer did not say anything regarding the reasons. However, according to unknown sources, this layoff happened because of AI technology.
Also, many news media platforms of Crypto confirmed this thing that this layoff happened because of artificial intelligence technology. Because previous year IBM’s CEO Arvind Krishna shared a statement that hiring would be stopped in the firm and it would be replaced with artificial intelligence. He was clear in his statement that human resources such as back office work hiring can be slow or completely stopped. So now what is happening is that crypto news media taking the statement and connecting it with this layoff and this is true. However, in the future, we can see the real reason but there are more chances that AI will be the reason.
IBM is not only a firm that is doing layoffs but there are many more tech companies that will do layoffs of the employees in 2024. According to layoffs.FYI,
A firm providing information about layoffs, about 204 companies have announced job cuts in the year 2024, due to which about 49,978 employees have been affected.
Along with AI, there is one more reason and that is restructuring. IBM already working towards restructuring. IBM's chief financial officer has said that the firm is doing restructuring and they will spend the same amount of money as spent in the last year. It spent 400 million US dollars in the previous year for the restructuring at that time they laid off 3,900 employees this can be the reason this year however it is not clear.
Increasing the use of generative AI is becoming a danger for human jobs and slowly many tech companies replacing humans with generative AI. We have seen people talking about creativity, indeed, AI cannot replace creativity but At the same time, the jobs of graphic designers, musicians, and developers are also no longer secure.
You know musicians put in their efforts when they create music and the music is creative same goes with graphic designers so now AI working great here that is why it is replacing humans in this field in these fields.
