In Praise of Screen Protectors

I dropped my camera a while ago and cracked the screen protector. There's a running joke that these protectors are not necessary because the screen would only crack if it fell face down on a pebble. What are the chances of that happening? Well, that's precisely what happened to my tough camera when I dropped it on a pebbly road while attaching the strap, of all things. I watched it go down in slow motion. Thankfully, it hit my leg on the way down and that cushioned the fall somewhat, but then the meme became real when a pebble struck the screen on the bottom edge (as you can see from the crack).

I finally got around to installing a new screen protector (upper right corner of image).

This is the final product. It looks like the camera is wearing glasses, but she's a rugged little beast.
