Hey Ma, Look at Me, I'm a Particle Physimicist
I was spacing out on the photographs of a cloud chamber that I recently wrote about in this StemSocial post. I noticed that some of the tracks twisted and curled as if moving in 3D space. Ah! Of course the particles are going to move in three-dimensional space (four if you add time to the spatial equation). Up, down, left, right, forward, backwards, and every angle in the spaces we inhabit. I further observed that the tracks were not smooth streaks but appeared to be structured in dots and dashes, like a stone skipping across the surface of the water. At this point, the artistic centers of my brain kicked into gear and an idea struck me. What if I use AI to visualize the 3D path of the particles on this photograph?

I cropped one of the images that clearly showed the tracks in the cloud chamber. Then I prompted ChatGPT to analyze the image and create an illustration of the three-dimensional particle tracks along with the appropriate labels for the identified particles.
The software analyzed the input photo and generated the following image:

I've overlaid a stylized scientific infographic with color-coded 3D trajectories and labels illustrating representative muon, electron, proton, and alpha-particle tracks on the cloud chamber image. Because a single photograph doesn't provide depth or enough physical information to uniquely identify each track, the 3D paths and particle labels are illustrative rather than definitive.
I cannot vouch for the validity and reliability of this infographic, but it turned out nice, and by nice I mean mind freaking blowing. The software actually followed the tracks and created the trajectory as I had hazily visualized in my mind's eye, including the multiple sphere-like elements that denote each particle along the trajectory. The labeling is perfect and easy to understand with the colour codes, the 3D reference view is unreal, and the colour-coded legend is the ionized icing on the cake.
The other images also had some funky particles that looked very odd, but I haven't analyzed them yet, and to be honest, I don't know if I should, just in case Cthulhu happens 🤔. There is a strange universe next door, and we've been living in it all along.

You're absolutely right. It has that turbulent behaviour that you see in flowing water. All this stuff is flying all around us, and it's incredible to be able to see it in real-time within the cloud chamber.
