Beautiful butterflies from the genus Mycalesis genus or also known as eye butterflies are one of the butterfly species that are widespread in various tropical and subtropical regions. Genus Mycalesis butterflies are included in the Nymphalidae family and have distinctive characteristics that differentiate them from other butterflies, these butterflies are known for their interesting wing patterns and their ability to camouflage with the environment around them, in general, the wings of these butterflies have a brown color that resembles dry leaves or tree bark and this is very beneficial for butterflies because it gives them the ability to protect themselves from predators by camouflage.

one of the distinctive characteristics of Mycalesis butterflies is the presence of large dots or eyes neatly printed on the back of their wings, these dots look like the eyes of other animals, and in my opinion this works very well to trick predators, such as birds for example, by making they think that there are larger and more dangerous creatures around these butterflies, apart from that, some species in this genus have darker colored wings with striking stripes or patterns, and all this uniqueness only increases their abilities to camouflage.

Mycalesis butterflies also have an interesting life cycle, they start life with eggs laid by the female on the leaves of certain host plants, after they hatch into larvae or caterpillars they eat the leaves of the host plant very greedily, slowly they will turn into pupae and in the end they become adult and beautiful Mycalesis butterflies, their existence in various tropical ecosystems makes them an important part of the food chain, Mycalesis has a role as a herbivore when it is still a larva and plays a role as a pollinator when it becomes an adult.
