Madame Radioactive ☢️ [EN/ES]

Hello, Dear Friends of #Hive and the Scientific Community, and #STEM Enthusiasts

On this occasion, I would like to invite you to participate in the contest organized by the esteemed @gwajnberg, whose guidelines can be reviewed in this post, with submissions open until the 18th of this month.

Following the first question proposed for the contest, and since we are in the month of March and recently celebrated International Women’s Day, I think it is both fair and well-deserved to talk a little about one of the most incredible women who revolutionized science and the social conventions of her time.

I’m sure more than one of you thought of Marie Curie. While there are many talented women in science, without a doubt, Marie Curie earned a special place for her scientific investigations and discoveries, as well as for breaking the invisible barrier that prevented women from becoming professors at the Sorbonne.

Moreover, she is the only person in the world to have won Nobel Prizes in two different scientific disciplines, having achieved the Nobel in Chemistry and also in Physics, which undoubtedly demonstrates the brilliance she possessed.

Without a doubt, Marie Curie is one of the scientists I admire most. She opened the doors to science for women through her intelligence, perseverance, and tenacity.

Scientific Discoveries of Marie Curie

1. Theory of Radioactivity: Marie Curie developed the concept of radioactivity, a term she herself coined, and studied the properties of radioactive elements.
2. Discovery of Polonium (1898): Together with her husband, Pierre Curie, she discovered this chemical element, which they named in honor of her native Poland.
3. Discovery of Radium (1898): They also identified this element, which was found to be hundreds of times more radioactive than uranium.
4. Isolation of Radium: She succeeded in isolating radium in its pure form, allowing for more detailed study of its properties.
5. Medical Applications: Her work was fundamental to the development of radiotherapy, used in cancer treatment.

Marie Curie’s Nobel Prizes

Hola queridos amigos de #Hive y de la comunidad científica y amantes de las #stem. En esta oportunidad me gustaría invitarlos a participar del concurso organizado por el estimado @gwajnberg cuyos lineamientos pueden revisar en este post y tienen tiempo hasta el 18 de este mes.

Siguiendo la primera pregunta propuesta para el concurso, y como estamos en el mes de marzo y hace pocas semanas se celebró el Día Internacional de la Mujer, me parece justo y merecido hablar un poco sobre una de las mujeres más increíbles que revolucionó las ciencias y también las convenciones sociales de su época.

Seguro más de uno habrá pensado en Marie Curie, y aunque hayan muchas mujeres talentosas en las ciencias, sin dudas Marie Curie se ganó un lugar especial por sus investigaciones y descubrimientos científicos, además de haber roto la barrera invisible que impedía a las mujeres ser catedráticas en la Sorbona.

Además, es la única persona en el mundo que ha ganado Premios Nobel en disciplinas científicas diferentes, ya que logró el Nobel de Química y también el de Física, lo que sin dudas demuestra el genio del que era poseedora.

Sin dudas Marie Curie es una de las científicas que más admiro y que abrió las puertas a las ciencias a las mujeres gracias a su inteligencia, perseverancia y tenacidad.

Descubrimientos Científicos de Marie Curie

1. Teoría de la Radiactividad: Marie Curie desarrolló el concepto de radiactividad, un término que ella misma acuñó, y estudió las propiedades de los elementos radiactivos.
2. Descubrimiento del Polonio (1898): Junto con su esposo Pierre Curie, descubrió este elemento químico, al que nombraron en honor a Polonia, su país natal.
3. Descubrimiento del Radio (1898): También identificaron este elemento, que resultó ser cientos de veces más radiactivo que el uranio.
4. Aislamiento del Radio: Logró aislar el radio en su forma pura, lo que permitió estudiar sus propiedades con mayor detalle.
