Using AI in my daily life
Artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed the way we do things these days, and I'm talking about those of us who have embraced it and integrated it into our daily activities. Many people think that AI began with chatGPT and while I do agree that chatGPT popularized the use of AI, It is just a large language model and AI has been around way before GPT was released. Two of the AI tools I have been using before chatGPT are Grammarly and Google Assistant. Even Siri and Amazon Alexa utilize some form of AI in their features.
Since the release of chatGpt to the public, we have seen an increased number of ways AI is now being used. Initially, we could only feed a bunch of questions to chatGPT and it gives us answers but now, there are a lot more features that are available. For instance, we can now generate images and even videos just by describing what we want. And with the release of GPT-4o, the single Pringles out there can even have a virtual girlfriend as AI can now flirt. And no, I'm not even joking
Although that feature isn't publicly available yet, still it's kinda creepy. Anyway, those are just the tip of the iceberg of the things AI can do these days. I recently saw a video of an AI robot that's working on a farm, harvesting fruits. it can accurately detect which fruits are ripe and ready for harvest, and then it harvests them with precision. And that's the next step of AI development; integration with machines. AI robots that are specialized for different tasks are being developed as I write this and one example is the OpenAI robot.
It would be interesting to see how these AI robots would transform our lives years from now but for now, many of us are still making do with the AI that exists on our phones. I use AI quite a lot every day from simple tasks to quite complicated ones. One of the AI tools I use is Grammarly, and I have it installed on my phone and laptop. I use it for spell-checking, grammar correction and sentence structuring. It pops up anytime I'm typing (on social media and even emails) and it catches any error I make which is very convenient.
The second way I use AI is with large language models and I mostly use 3 of them; chatGPT, Google Gemini and Claude. I'm a software engineer and using these tools has made things a LOT easier. Before now, whenever I had a problem with my codes, I had to search on Google for answers and that could take several minutes or even hours on some rare cases. The worst type of problem you can have as a software engineer are bugs which you don't seem to know what is causing them or where they are coming from but with AI, it's now a lot easier to catch bugs.
The software I use for writing codes now has Gemini built into it which makes it easier to find bugs. I can just ask it "This button is supposed to open a popup box when it is clicked but that is not happening, can you figure out the problem?" In less than a minute, it has pointed out where the problem is coming from and also offered solutions on how to fix it. The sweetest part about all these is the auto-completion feature that comes with it and I will admit that it can be creepy sometimes because it feels like it is reading my mind.
Sometimes I will just think "I need to add a feature here that will ask the user for confirmation" and before I start typing, Gemini has already written out the codes for exactly what I had in mind. I will just stare at the codes and go "This is actually very accurate, wow!" I mean, it was very interesting the first time I started using it (and again, creepy) but I have since gotten used to it and as I said earlier, it has made my work a lot easier. I now complete my projects much faster because having AI do some of the work feels like having an assistant and that's what it actually is; a virtual assistant!
But the downside is that a lot of jobs are going to be replaced. Everyone always says that the first jobs that would be taken down by AI are digital ones (graphics design, programming, copywriting) and I agree but for now it still has a long way to go before it can do that. The current AI is great but it's still quite far from perfection. For it to produce the result you desire, you have to be very good at prompting and there's even a thing called "prompt engineering". There are courses online about prompt engineering that teach you how to properly prompt AI.
This goes to show that there are certain things you need to know about asking AI questions, after all, they were trained on a large amount of data and the way they answer questions (prompts) is by making predictions. The algorithm is quite complex, so I wouldn't bore you guys with the details but what you should know is that to have it predict in the right direction, you have to give it the right prompts. Here is a tip; next time you want to ask chatGPT to do something, tell it to assume a role.
Example
Assume the role of an assistant. Write a college essay on...
Split the answer into sections and use scientific sources.
*Another thing you can do is to ask it to help you solve a problem like this; give me a step-by-step guide to the following problem with clear instructions on how to perform each step. *
There are a lot of other prompt engineering techniques out there and as I said earlier, it's an entire course on its own. AI isn't that great on its own and it needs a lot of hand-holding for it to produce good results. I use it every day and sometimes it produces inaccurate information. I sometimes had to go back and forth with it before it could conclude on an answer, and sometimes I just give up and try to figure out the problem on my own. But still, I can't deny the fact that it has made me more productive and things are now done a lot faster.

It looks like everyone is going to be in a relationship now. AI is really going to transform the way we experience life. The internet and social media might have done justice to those experiences, but I bet AI will do more
it would be interesting to see how our lives would be 10 years from now after AI has reached a very developed stage, it might turn out to be a disaster but let me just maintain a positive mindset for now 😅 thanks for stopping by
