The Plane With Six Wings

A start-up company from Alabama SE Aeronautics introduced a study of a new jet airplane meant for transporting both people and cargo. And it should be something completely new.

The plane called SE200 is very different for even the most inexperienced plane enthusiasts. And even for people who have no idea about planes other that they exist and fly. This is because it has six wings instead of the traditional two. This changes a lot for a plane as more traditional airplanes store part of their fuel supply in wings. In SE200 the fuel is instead stored in tanks that can be found in the upper part of the body and the plane uses a pair of economical engines with a thrust of 64,000 lbf (285,000 kN).

On top of that, the body of the plane is not made for individual parts that are attached to each other as is the case in planes nowadays but instead it is made from a single monocoque (an object that supports load with its external skin, like an egg) that should be much more durable against any material fatigue.

Combine all of this and you get a plane that should use up to 70 % less fuel during flight. That is obviously good for many reasons including the price of the fuel or the plane's total carbon emission production which should be up to 80 % lower than other similar airplanes in its category. On top of that, its design should allow it to use much shorter runways for take-off and promises a truly extreme range of up to 17,000 kilometers.

So yeah, this plane does look truly interesting but sadly for the time being it is just a study and a technology waiting to be approved of at the American patent office. And it’s hard to say whether any of the airplane producers will be willing to bet on such an unproven technology with all the costs associated with developing an airplane.
