[ENG-ESP] 📚✨ Book Review: The Love Hypothesis 🔬🧬

Hello Hello Community! ✨, I don't think I've confessed so far here (in this community) how much I like romantic stories 🤣, or rather how much I can be a romance freak, so it's not surprising that I've managed to find an author who is characterized precisely by building scientific romantic stories 🤣, and that I've become addicted to her books to the point of reading three of them in a week 👉🏻👈🏻. Considered the phenomenon of tik tok, this self-conclusive book is part of a long list of romantic stories built in the field of science, and that leads us to discover the love between research theories 💕, today we will talk about The Love Hypothesis 🔬🧬.

Olive is a 3rd year PhD student who is so focused on her research work that she has no time for romance, although to tell the truth she doesn't believe in lasting love, but what she does believe in is friendship and science, and that's why when her best friend Anh starts to have feelings for Olive's ex-boyfriend, she gets involved in an embarrassing situation in which she decides to kiss the first person she comes across in the night corridors of the university labs, she gets involved in an embarrassing situation in which she decides to kiss the first person who crosses her in the night corridors of the university laboratories, because as scientists there is nothing better to prove a fact than empirical evidence, although perhaps that was not the smartest idea, because the person she ends up kissing is one of the most hated professors of the doctorate: Adam Carlsen.

And while this might be proof enough to make it clear to her friend Anh that Olive has moved on and doesn't really care if she and her ex start a relationship, it looks like she'll need something stronger, and so begins the famous "fake relationship" cliché between Olive and Adam 💕.

The Love Hypothesis is the first book published by the author Ali Hazelwood, who is a university professor dedicated to the world of science, a world in which she focuses her novels (I wouldn't say all of them because I've only read three, but I think most of them), and in which she tells us this romantic comedy, because it is precisely in that category that we find ourselves in this story 🤭. It is a story whose central base is the cliché of the "fake date", so it is to be expected that there will be more clichés like that one throughout the plot, and in fact there are, but what is also true is that the author plays and laughs at these clichés, during several moments in the story our protagonist Olive makes mention of several of them that are typical of romantic comedy films, Being this a book exactly in that category, I found it a success and a hilarious touch to the story, it makes you see that at all times the author was aware and intentional with what she was writing, and that makes the reading something pleasant and enjoyable. The author as I said at the beginning, has her stamp, women in the scientific field, not only in this book but in others, this is one of the central elements of the story, because despite being a romance book, in it she also tries to make visible the injustices to which women are subjected in this field, in other words, she shows us the machismo that reigns in science, and that makes me love her stories.

The story is told only from Olive's perspective, which leaves me a little bit unhappy because I feel that adding Adam's version would have been a 10/10, especially because I know that there is a special version of this book that contains Adam's account of a specific chapter, and from what I could see in Tik Tok, it makes a big difference in the story, a positive difference 💕. With this book something quite particular happened to me, and it made me feel that I hadn't read a male protagonist who wasn't toxic for a long time, I think that with the passage of time the toxicity in male characters has become very normalized, from larger to smaller scale, in almost most of the stories we can find at least one situation where we can see some kind of flag network in the male protagonist, and in this story (and in the other two I read by the author) I was a bit surprised to find a romantic interest so healthy, so gentle and with so much affective responsibility, that made me understand even more the reason why these books are so loved by the reading community 💕.

And with this I don't mean that the story doesn't have its weak points, in fact the most important weak point for me is the absence of a declaration of love by Adam 🤣, and it may seem something very banal or without little justification, but we are talking about a romantic comedy that uses and laughs at clichés, that builds the love relationship of the protagonists with so much caution and subtlety, that presents us with a male protagonist who is a walking green flag, but who doesn't give us a declaration of love? 🤣🤣, I just don't accept it.

Still I can't deny that I loved both protagonists, their relationship feels completely genuine, obviously from the beginning you realise where things are going to flow, but as I always say, in this kind of stories sometimes what matters most is not the outcome of the romance, but the way in which it is built, and definitely here you have an excellent construction of the same. I have to admit that at the beginning I didn't see who the antagonist of the story would be, however the author reaches a point where she starts to leave you clues, so when the moment comes for you it's evident that this person had always had those intentions, although to tell the truth, the way in which the specific situation caused by this character is resolved (which obviously I won't say because it's a spoiler), seems a bit convenient to me 🤷🏻‍♀️. I would have liked to know a bit more about Adam's life, I feel that we are told very little about him and his past, unlike Olive who we are given more information about, even so I won't say that these are abysmal flaws because overall the story is beautiful, and having already read two more books by the author, I know the prowess of her writing ✨. For me Adam and Olive are a very successful duo, Adam is a more taciturn, thoughtful and calm person, while Olive is more of a teasing, inquisitive and a bit impulsive 🤣.

¡Hola Hola Comunidad! ✨, creo que hasta el momento no he confesado por aquí (por ésta comunidad) lo mucho que me gustan las historias románticas 🤣, o mejor dicho lo mucho que puedo llegar a ser la loca del romance, así que no es de sorprenderse que haya logrado dar con una autora que se caracteriza justamente por construir historias románticamente científicas 🤣, y que me haya vuelto en una adicta a sus libros al punto de leer tres de ellos en una semana 👉🏻👈🏻. Considerado el fenómeno de tik tok, éste libro autoconclusivo forma parte de una larga lista de historias románticas construidas en el ámbito de la ciencia, y que nos lleva a descubrir el amor entre teorías investigativas 💕, el día de hoy hablaremos de La Hipótesis del Amor 🔬🧬.

Olive es una estudiante de 3er año de doctorado que se encuentra tan enfocada en su trabajo investigativo que no tiene tiempo para el romance, aunque a decir verdad ella no cree en el amor duradero, sin embargo en lo que sí apuesta su confianza es en la amistad y en la ciencia, y es por eso que cuando su mejor amiga Anh comienza a tener sentimientos hacía el ex novio de Olive, ella se ve envuelta en una situación vergonzosa en la que decide besar a la primera persona que se cruza con ella en los pasillos nocturnos de los laboratorios de la universidad, porque como científicas no hay nada mejor para comprobar un hecho que las pruebas empíricas, aunque quizás esa no haya sido la idea más inteligente, pues a quien termina besando es a uno de los profesores más odiados del doctorado: Adam Carlsen.

Y aunque ésta podría ser prueba suficiente para dejarle claro a su amiga Anh de que Olive ya pasó página y realmente no le importa que ella y su ex comiencen una relación, parece ser que necesitará algo más contundente, y es así como se da inicio al famosísimo cliché de "falsa relación" entre Olive y Adam 💕.

La Hipótesis del Amor es el primer libro publicado por la autora Ali Hazelwood, quien es una profesora universitaria dedicada al mundo de la ciencia, mundo en que justamente centra sus novelas (no diría todas porque solo he leído tres, pero creo que sí la mayoría), y en el cual nos relata ésta comedia romántica, porque justamente en esa categoría nos encontramos en ésta historia 🤭. Es una historia cuya base central es el cliché de “falsa cita”, así que es de esperarse que como ése haya a lo largo de la trama otros más, y de hecho es así pero lo que también es cierto es que la autora juega y se ríe de éstos clichés, durante varios momentos en la historia nuestra protagonista Olive hace mención de varios de ellos que son propios de las películas de comedia romántica, siendo éste un libro exactamente de esa categoría, me pareció un acierto y un toque divertidísimo a la historia, te hace ver que en todo momento la autora era consciente e intencional con lo que escribía, y eso convierte la lectura en algo agradable y ameno. La autora como bien dije al inicio, tiene su sello, mujeres en el ámbito científico, no sólo en éste libro sino en otros más, éste es uno de los elementos centrales de la historia, pues a pesar de ser un libro romance, en él también se intenta visibilizar las injusticias a las que son sometidas las mujeres en esté ámbito, dicho de otra forma, nos muestra el machismo que reina en la ciencia, y eso a mí me hace amar sus historias.

La historia está narrada solo desde la perspectiva de Olive, lo cual me deja un poquito inconforme porque siento que añadir la versión de Adam habría sido un 10/10, sobre todo porque sé que hay una versión especial de éste libro que contiene el relato de Adam de un capítulo en específico, y que por lo que pude ver en Tik Tok, hace una gran diferencia en la historia, una diferencia positiva 💕. Con éste libro me pasó algo bastante particular, y es que me hizo sentir que hacía mucho no leía a un protagonista masculino que no fuese tóxico, creo que con el paso del tiempo se ha normalizado mucho la toxicidad en los personajes masculinos, de mayor a menor escala, en casi la mayoría de las historias nos podemos encontrar con al menos una situación en donde logremos ver alguna red flag en el protagonista masculino, y en ésta historia (y en las otras dos que leí de la autora) me sorprendió un poco encontrarme con un interés romántico tan sano, tan gentil y con tanta responsabilidad afectiva, que eso me hizo entender aún más, la razón por la cual éstos son libros tan queridos por la comunidad lectora 💕.

Y con ésto no quiero decir que la historia no tenga sus puntos débiles, de hecho el punto débil mas importante para mí, es la ausencia de una declaración de amor por parte de Adam 🤣, y podrá parecer algo muy banal o sin poca justificación, pero estamos hablando de una comedia romántica que usa y se ríe de los clichés, que construye la relación amorosa de los protagonistas con tanta cautela y sutileza, que nos presenta a un protagonista masculino que es una green flag andante, ¿pero que no nos da una declaración de amor? 🤣🤣, sencillamente no lo acepto.

Aún así no puedo negar que ambos protagonistas me encantaron, su relación se siente completamente genuina, obviamente desde el inicio te das cuenta hacía donde irán fluyendo las cosas, pero como siempre digo, en éste tipo de historias a veces lo que más importa no es el desenlace del romance, sino la forma en cómo éste se construye, y definitivamente aquí se tiene una excelente construcción del mismo. He de admitir que al inicio no ví venir quién sería el antagonista de la historia, sin embargo la autora llega un punto en el que te comienza a dejar pistas, por lo que cuando el momento llega para tí es evidente que esa persona siempre había tenido esas intenciones, aunque ha decir verdad, la forma en cómo se resuelve la situación específica causada por ese personaje (que obviamente no diré porque es spoiler), me parece algo conveniente 🤷🏻‍♀️. Me habría gustado saber un poco más de la vida de Adam, siento que se nos cuenta muy poco de él y su pasado, a diferencia de Olive de quien sí se nos da más información, aún así no diré que estás son fallas abismales porque en general la historia es bellísima, y además al haber leído ya dos libros más de la autora, conozco las proezas de su escritura ✨. Para mí Adam y Olive son un dúo muy bien logrado, Adam es una persona más taciturna, reflexiva y calmada, mientras que Olive es alguien más bromista, inquisitiva y un poco impulsiva 🤣.
