The mad dash to disconnect

Greetings!

In my workspace, I have a woman, a tailor who had apprentices—up to three, all of whom were ladies. They used to hang around my space whenever they were free. There was one in particular; I’m afraid to use her real name so I don't get haunted in my dream, so let's call her Stella. She was in her early 20s and was in a very pronounced relationship because her boyfriend would come to pick her up every time she finished work. Also, her Samsung phone was a gift from him. However, she had a big problem with data subscriptions, constantly begging almost everyone to help her subscribe to one.

One day, she came to work without her phone. When I asked her why she didn't have it with her, she said she had given it out to be charged because the battery was flat. Immediately after she said that, she paused, stood still with her finger on her lips, trying to remember something, and then suddenly let out a shout, "Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh God!"

She was very fond of that exclamation, so I pretended not to hear her. Before I knew it, she came closer and asked to borrow N500 so she could go home and turn off the data on her phone.

"Haaaa! Is it because of data that you want to pay for transport to go home? Your phone will charge even with the data being on," I countered her plea because it seemed so unnecessary.

"Ohhhh! You're not getting it! My phone was actually off when I gave it to be charged, but I think I didn't turn off the data before I switched off the phone. I don't want the data to get exhausted before I get home," she said, worriedly, as she paced around anxiously.

What she said wasn’t clear to me, so I asked her to repeat it. She did and ended with, "Are you giving me the N500 or not?"

Wow! She wanted to go home and turn on her phone just to switch off the data she didn’t turn off before she powered down her phone, believing that even while her phone was shut down, her data was still being used.

Haaaa! I had never heard such a thing in my life. At one point, I almost bought into the idea, thinking maybe phones worked that way. But before I could think it further, I had a 'knock on my brain' telling me not to be as foolish as this girl.

I just sat on my chair, laughing at her as she ran up and down, trying to find the transport fare to go home and turn off the data on the phone she had turned off before leaving for work. I tried explaining to her that nothing would happen to her data as long as her phone was off, but she didn’t believe me. She finally borrowed money from someone, took a public bike home, turned off the data on the phone, and came back.

Delulu!

Thanks for reading.

This is my entry to Day 21 of #augustinleo.

🤣🤣
I think the stress of having to run around for data is taking its toll on her.
Her mental state should be checked because what was that?

How is the boyfriend coping?
😆 😂

For sure, she didn't do that data subscription by herself and she mustn't let it go off into the air like that 😂.
The boyfriend is trying.
Thank you for stopping by girl 🙌

Oh my God, this is not supposed to be this funny, why did I laugh so much.
I don’t understand the idea behind data usage when the phone is turned off.

Delulu you are not a good a person fa 😂
So you could not help a sister with transport to go and turn off her data on her already dead phone...🤣

As funny as it may sound, they are people like that, they are fully ignorant of all this smart phones and technology entirely.

I don't blame her, I blame ignorance 😂
