Self-Driving Cars | The Less Function

There are some innovations that we can’t just imagine functioning properly in certain parts of the world, and one of those innovations is self-driving cars. It simply can’t work well in Nigeria, no matter what, even in 20 years to come.

Let me first talk about the operation on a worldwide scale.

Self-driving cars can only be effective when used on designated roads, not in all cities. I don’t even see them operating everywhere. They are more suitable for programmed journeys, maybe for mass transit systems that stop and start at fixed points across various terminals, not like regular human-driven cars. It may sound good, just as we’ve seen in movies and heard in discussions about their existence, but when it comes to real-life operation, it’s a completely different situation.

It is risky for them to be used on roads that other people use. The best routes for self-driving cars are those meant strictly for them. If this cannot be provided, then it is very risky to allow such cars to operate among human drivers. No matter how advanced the technology is, there will always be unusual signs that reveal the car is not controlled by a human, except maybe if someone is remotely controlling it from home using sensors or is that how it works? Using my country as an example, there’s no way these cars won’t collide with other vehicles or people, mainly because the traffic system is not well organized. The only exception would be if there are special roads designed for them. But for that use? Why would there be a road designed for self-driving cars? That's absolutely a waste of space and finances.

What's the reason for self-driving cars?

I think the only reasonable and responsible idea that would back up the introduction of self-driving cars is for the cars to carry loads and deliver at a destination. Aside from this, there's absolutely no reason for it or is there any one that I don't know? Lol😅

Okay, let's say these cars don't get checked by police on the road due to how respected they are, don't you think people can easily use them to transport exhibits? Hold on first, are these cars supposed to pass through roads that have police on the way? Do they stop or just keep firing when a police person blocks the way to stop it and the police need to jump out of the way???

When an accident occurs, who gets the blame?

First of all, the owner gets the major blame for allowing the car to cause an accident. It could be that the car was directed to the road it's not supposed to ply or places that couldn't be accessed properly.

Secondly, the company that produced the car has to be blamed also because for an accident to occur, it means that the car isn't sensitive enough to detect and bypass troubles at the front.

Thanks for reading.

It will be hard for self-driving cars to actually do well on our Nigerian roads with Nigerian drivers, they will confuse the innocent car 😂.
