Brilliant, what an ending. But I wonder now: is Ben the robot driver, or the entire vehicle? I'm getting an image of a windy walk on the beach as she holds the handle of the hovering craft.
Nice amount of emotional poignance, but much more humour to keep the story light and easy to read.

Highly intelligent machines are just around the corner methinks, and this will bring up all sorts of spicy scenarios for humanity and science fiction writers. One thing I didn't mention is that the car likely has web access. This overcomplicates matters narrative-wise, so I left it out. In the real world, an intelligence with unfettered internet access would be an explosive scenario.
