Scientists historically crossed several lines of morality.

What the history of science has shown us over the years is that being deeply knowledgeable about anything plays a big part in saving us from falling into the pit of naivety. This is a solidifying stance to the already established "knowledge is power" statement. Knowledge is truly power and for what it's worth, science is all about a deep search for knowledge.

Over the years, humans have adopted scientific means to go on a deep dive for knowledge, and most of the things we know in this day and time are thanks to science. The fact that we have a better understanding of our physiology, psychology, universe, and whatnot is thanks to the massive adoption of scientific methods throughout human history.

Back in the day, people who got infected by smallpox usually got sent into exile because no known medication was available to be used for that treatment. Giving birth to twins was also seen as a strange thing and many twins were killed immediately after birth even in Nigeria until a few decades ago.

Those in that era were ignorant but scientists have managed to come up with explanations for that and we all now celebrate the birth of twins, triplets and more. The impact of science on the health sector has grown massively and it's widely enjoyed by us. The same is the case in all other areas of life.

Have you ever wondered about the moral lines that had to be crossed by scientists before they were able to come up with several solutions and explanations for the things we currently know?

This is where things get dark real quick because if you believe the letters written in history books to hold any truth, you will know that a lot of immoral things were done by scientists in their attempt to understand how certain things work and a lot more were done while they were carrying out the series of experiment they did on their test subjects.

Currently, the idea of "test subjects" is always tied to rabbits and chimpanzees. However, one of the historical records I came across about the early studies of human anatomy showed that a lot of humans were kidnapped, trapped in hidden sites, and used by wild scientists as test subjects. They were carved open while alive and conscious just because some scientists were desperately trying to figure out how the anatomy of a living human works.

Of course, a lot of those "test subjects" died in this trial-by-error study and a long list of people lost their lives while being used as test subjects. That is just a snippet of the lines that were crossed by scientists to figure out the things we currently know about human anatomy.

The same goes for the testing of newly manufactured drugs. At the moment, a more moral approach is being taken to test drugs before giving them approval as drugs that are fit for purpose. At least, that's the narrative we are made to believe. So, if you paid attention to the manufacturing of COVID-19 vaccine and the testing stages it went through, you will have a better understanding of what I mean.

I'm not so convinced that this same approach was taken a century ago. I can imagine several situations where people were used to test newly manufactured drugs and tons of them got exposed to lethal side effects. Cases like that usually gets buried in history while we celebrate the availability of medical pills like the ones we have today.

Is it worth crossing those lines?

To be fair, science has achieved so much over the years and they've had to cross some lines which so many people would be disgusted about in this day and time. Despite knowing where I stand, I won't openly be the judge of the lines that were crossed though. Not in this post.

Think about all I've highlighted in this post and decide if the lines crossed by scientists is a worthy sacrifice.

Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop or Comma.

Well, I would say the lines were crossed. Imagine being in that situation, kidnapped, helpless, and knowing I won't survive. I am not Jesus, so I can't understand why I'll need to die for others. My life is precious to me.

I'll just put it that way, though I'd confess the presence of scientists has been helpful still it can be endangering.

Yeah. Their action over the years has yielded good results and made it possible for so much to be known about a lot of things. However, the method they used to run some of their experiments are inhumane and shouldn't be allowed to be in practice in this day and time

That's right. I hope they get to reason like this, but... well, they are humans (unpredictable).

When discussing things which sound extra-ordinary (such as human vivisection) it is worth linking to your sources so that folks can read on the subject.

this adds to the veracity of your writing, and increases your readerships trust.

This actually makes a lot of sense. The way articles are presented on Hive makes it easy to overlook things like that.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.

Science has gone far from where it began, I just imagine myself coming into this world as twins and being tossed into the deep forest just because people are filled with ignorance.

The other examples of using people as test subjects are as well as scary as hell.

We can only hope that there will be more reasonable and less desperate scientists, who will use less extreme ways to carry out their research.

That's true. We can all see the positive impact that have been made through the work of scientists. They did a good job and we can see the outcome of their action.

It's just concerning to know that a lot of them are desperate enough to cross lines that shouldn't be crossed. Some even go as far as creating viruses that are lethal enough to wipe out a whole country.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on this
