Hello friends, I would like to thank all of you who like my previous post. "Energy we need and human health". In this post I discussed about the basic needs of human body through Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). Actually BMR determine the basic needs of human body. It depends upon you age, your weight and height. The first things comes in mind after knowing BMR is the body composition. The rough method of finding Body composition is by calculating your BMI. Body Mass Index. Laterly I would like to disclose why I used the term rough method.

Body Mass Index is a simple calculation in which you have to divide your weight (kg) by square of your height.
BMI = Weight (kg)/ m2 (sq meter)

If you see the above chart you will find the normal range of BMI.BMI lies between 18.5 to 24.9 is consider as normal while below 18.5 is underweight. Above 24.9 to 29 is overweight and after 29 obesity category starts.

It is a simple calculation you can calculate this at your home with ease. All you need to have measuring tape and bathroom scale. Remember the higher the BMI number from normal range the higher the risk of catching cardiovascular disease,pulmonary and diabetes etc.

Unfortunately BMI give you rough idea about Body composition.How? If you closely observe the athletes they have high BMI value because they have more muscles mass than body fat. High density of muscle mass increase their BMI but that doesn't mean they are obese. BMI is the number that only accounts Body weight and height. It miss the terms muscle mass and body fat which is as important as the other number.

Many people consider fat is not good for health. But remember fat is an important part of our body. It covers human organs like liver, heart, kidney etc. Blanket of fat helps to save human organ. Some of the fat stored in the body to provide energy when required.Women has more fat than men due to the reproduction process.

Remember excessive fat in your body plays a major role of creating disease and medical problems. So we can say that human body is composed of two type of mass. Fat Mass and lean mass. Lean mass includes your muscle mass, bones, connective tissue mass.

This is my post for today. I hope you will like my today's post. After reading my post if you want to calculate your Fat free mass index. All you need to know body fat% in your body. Calculation is simpler. Here is the formula of calculation

Total Body Fat = Weight in Kg * (body fat % / 100)
Lean Weight = Weight in Kg * (1 - (body fat % / 100)
FFMI = (Lean Weight in Kg / 2.2)/ ((Feet * 12.0 + Inches) * 0.0254)2
Adjusted FFMI = FFMI + ( 6.3 * (1.8 - (Feet * 12.0 + Inches) * 0.0254))
