El pasado sábado 8 de marzo se conmemoró el Día Internacional de la Mujer y el 11 de febrero fue el Día Internacional de la Mujer y la Niña en la Ciencia, es por esto que me gustaría dedicar este artículo a las mujeres que han desempeñado un papel fundamental en el avance científico y los desafios que se tienen ya que a pesar de que sus contribuciones son maravillosa muchas veces han sido ignoradas o subestimadas, una de mis científicas favoritas es Marie Curie, quien junto con su esposo, descubrió dos nuevos elementos químicos, el polonio y el radio, basándose en el fenómeno de la radiactividad, este es un descubrimiento que sentó las bases para aplicaciones prácticas como los rayos X y los tratamientos contra el cáncer mediante radioterapia. Inicialmente, su nombre no se incluyó en la nominación por ser mujer, pero fue la primera mujer en ganar un Premio Nobel, tambien hay otras científicas contemporáneas que están llevando a cabo investigaciones de vanguardia y el hecho es que las mujeres en la ciencia han demostrado una resistencia extraordinaria y han demostrado que pueden romper barreras estructurales y culturales.

A pesar del progreso logrado las mujeres aún enfrentan muchos desafíos en el área científica, según datos de las Naciones Unidas aunque representan aproximadamente un tercio de los investigadores globales, solo el 12% de los miembros de academias nacionales de ciencia son mujeres y suelen recibir menos financiamiento para sus proyectos y tienen menor representación en revistas científicas destacadas, esto es real porque me ha tocado vivirlo, además que en este campo de la Ciencia y la Tecnología la participación de las mujeres es muy poca porque no todas tienen acceso a una educación superior y menos a carreras científicas, por esto creo que el ejemplo de modelos femeninos es importante para motivar a más niñas y jóvenes a ingresar al mundo científico, es importante demostrar que la excelencia científica no tiene género y fomentar este interés entre las más jóvenes.

Políticas para Empoderar a las Mujeres

Algunos países han implementado políticas para incrementar la participación femenina en ciencia por ejemplo en Irán existen presupuestos específicos para proyectos liderados por mujeres científicas y se han establecido escuelas especializadas para fomentar el interés temprano por la ciencia, existen iniciativas como "STEM4All" que buscan derribar esas barreras mediante mentorías y programas educativos inclusivos, por cierto esa página web la he revisado y tienen artículos bien interesantes sobre la inclusión y programas de las mujeres en STEM. Construyendo Igualdad desde la Ciencia

La igualdad de género en la ciencia no es solo un objetivo moral o un simple capricho, es algo necesario para construir sociedades más justas y sostenibles, las investigaciones demuestran que aumentar la participación femenina puede cerrar brechas salariales y mejorar la productividad económica, además que incorporar perspectivas diferentes fortalece el desarrollo científico al mientras se abordan los problemas desde diferentes ángulos o puntos de vista. Para lograr todo esto hay que invertir en educación temprana STEM para niñas, promover políticas donde exista una equidad y garantizar que las mujeres tengan acceso equitativo a recursos científicos. Las iniciativas como mentorías personalizadas y plataformas digitales pueden ser una herramienta clave para transformar toda la situación actual.

Yo pienso que las mujeres son fundamentales para el avance científico desde tiempos remotos hasta hoy, de hyecho no se que haríamos hoy día sin muchos de los investos de las mujeres, sin embargo aún queda mucho por hacer para garantizar su completa inclusión y reconocimiento, celebrar sus logros e implementar políticas transformadoras son pasos esenciales hacia un futuro donde la ciencia sea verdaderamente equitativa. Con este artículo quiero informar sobre los desafíos y logros de las mujeres en ciencia y también inspirar a nuevas generaciones a continuar rompiendo barreras, porque cuando todas tienen acceso igualitario al conocimiento y a las oportunidades, ganamos todos.
