Just a bit of confusion, when you make the new proposed method. Are you still on notebook LM or just Gemini is there a specific customization I need to do or is it only pasting the article as prompt with no further instruction.

When you used NotebookLM, the content is restricted to the article. But if you Process the article through a conversation the content is not restricted to the article. Gemini will look up the whole internet.
Is that a good thing?
Well, if you aren't in Artificial Intelligence you are living under a rock. NotebookLM is a RAG advance tool for learning
I like to think that I am. But again, is like Spreadsheets, everyone uses the SUM() and maybe AVERAGE(), but most don't get to use the high level statistics, logarithmic and financial fx functions.

I was comparing spreadsheet formula library to what most people actually use. It's common to say that most business run in Excel and they only use the 1% of the capacity. I think you missed the point of the example.
I was comparing the underusage of spreadsheets with the underusage of AI. But I guess I will also add that in high school, scientific calculators were highly underused at school.
Take any given article and process through both NotebookLM and Gemini and thus you will see the differences
I'll do that. Usually I use notebook for private info like credit card statements or legal documentation that I want to preserve a focus on the document.
I wouldn't recommend using NotebookLM to save credit card information.
