Bueno por donde empezar, creo que el título y la miniatura lo explican todo 😶, simplemente les daré un poco más de contexto.
Hace unos días mi Potato PC me estaba dando problemas: se quedaba congelada con juegos muy simples, incluso mientras hacía tareas simples como mirar fotos antiguas. Esto era un problema terrible, ya que no sólo me hizo perder en varias de mis partidas online (Como si ya no perdiera lo suficiente por mi cuenta 🥲) sino que al tratar de grabar contenido para mi canal de youtube, me era casi imposible ya que me arruinaba el video completamente. Visto el problema me dispuse a actualizar los drivers y a revisar mis configuraciones, pero nada de esto pareció ayudarme, dejando como única posibilidad que sea un problema de los componentes. Recé todo lo que pude para que no fuera una pieza dando sus últimos suspiros de vida, sino alguna mala conexión en la RAM debido al polvo y saqué mi herramienta favorita de mantenimiento

Well where to start, I think the title and thumbnail explain it all 😶, I'll just give you a little more context.
A few days ago my Potato PC was giving me problems: it would freeze with very simple games, even while doing simple tasks like looking at old photos. This was a terrible problem, as it not only made me lose in several of my online games (As if I didn't already lose enough on my own 🥲) but when trying to record content for my youtube channel, it was almost impossible as it would completely ruin the video for me. Given the problem I set about updating the drivers and checking my settings, but none of this seemed to help, leaving the only possibility that it was a component problem. I prayed as much as I could that it was not a part giving its last breaths of life, but some bad connection in the RAM due to dust and I took out my favorite maintenance tool

Lo primero que noté al quitar la tapa lateral de la PC se puede resumir en una sola palabra: "POLVO".

La tarea de limpiar a estos niños polvorientos no fue sencilla, me vi obligado a usar mi cepillo para remover el polvo que más impregnado estaba en la superficie y luego tuve que frotarlo con un algodón y alcohol. Lamentablemente no poseo el equipo de aire a presión que es comúnmente usado para estas limpiezas así que como ven tocó improvisar, se pasó más trabajo pero el resultado verán al final del post que fue bastante bueno (creo...)

Ahora una pregunta que muchos se deben haber hecho llegado este punto, realmente el polvo puede hacer que tu PC funcione mal? Pues el polvo como tal es malo para tu computadora en todos los aspectos:

1- Puede hacer que se deterioren tus piezas, creando corrosión y desgaste, sobre todo en la placa madre
2- Los equipos que tienes piezas móviles (ventiladores) se ven muchas veces obstruidos por el polvo haciendo que giren mucho más lentos y que generen menos flujo de aire. Esto hace que el enfriamiento de tu PC sea mucho peor y por lo tanto si se sobrecalienta, menos vida útil para el equipo
3- Exceso de polvo puede hacer que las piezas que tienen que hacer contacto con otras (RAM, CPU, o tarjeta gráfica) no se entrelacen correctamente, y al esto crear una conexión poco estable puede hacer que tu sistema funcione de manera indebida (Como en mi caso 🤔)

The task of cleaning these dusty children was not easy, I was forced to use my brush to remove the dust that was more impregnated on the surface and then I had to rub it with cotton and alcohol. Unfortunately I do not have the air pressure equipment that is commonly used for these cleanings so as you can see I had to improvise, more work was spent but the result you will see at the end of the post was pretty good (I think...).

Now a question that many must have asked themselves at this point, can dust really make your PC malfunction? Well, dust as such is bad for your computer in all aspects:

1- It can cause your parts to deteriorate, creating corrosion and wear, especially on the motherboard.
2- Computers that have moving parts (fans) are often obstructed by dust making them spin much slower and generate less airflow. This makes the cooling of your PC much worse and therefore if it overheats, less life for the equipment.
3- Excess dust can cause parts that have to make contact with each other (RAM, CPU, or graphics card) to not interlock properly, and by this creating an unstable connection can make your system run improperly (As in my case 🤔).

Lo próximo que me dispuse a hacer fue remover mis tarjetas RAM, ya que otras veces me han dado problemas de este tipo. La verdad si que tenían mucho así que procedí a limpiarle sus contactos con una suave goma de borrar y le quité los restos que deja la goma en ellos usando una tela fina y suave. También limpié los slots donde coloco las tarjetas, ya que igualmente estaban muy polvorientos

The next thing I set out to do was to remove my RAM cards, as I have had problems like this before. The truth is that they had a lot so I proceeded to clean their contacts with a soft eraser and removed the debris left by the rubber on them using a fine and soft cloth. I also cleaned the slots where I place the cards, as they were also very dusty.

Luego de todo este mantenimiento a las tarjetas RAM también (por si acaso) desmonté el procesador, lo volví a colocar suavemente en su lugar y cambié la pasta térmica que hacía ya mucho tiempo no cambiaba. También retiré mis dos SSD M2 (uno mío y uno de la difunta laptop de mi novia) y limpié sus contactos y sus puertos en la placa madre, prestando atención sobre todo al que tengo instalado Windows en él

After all this maintenance to the RAM cards I also (just in case) disassembled the processor, gently put it back in place and changed the thermal paste that I hadn't changed for a long time. I also removed my two M2 SSDs (one mine and one from my girlfriend's late laptop) and cleaned their contacts and their ports on the motherboard, paying special attention to the one where I have Windows installed.

Ahora toca la parte donde más FE tenemos los gamers: donde ponemos todas las piezas en su lugar, cerramos la PC y rezamos a todos los Dioses que conocemos porque, por favor, inicie de nuevo sin problemas 😣🙏.

Y luego de una que otra prueba y mucho uso, puedo afirmar que hasta el día de hoy no me ha vuelto a aparecer el error que tenía. Cual era el problema exactamente? Ni idea 😐. No me voy a hacer el listo con ustedes, lo más probable es que haya sido suciedad de la RAM o el SSD, pero no habría forma de saberlo realmente. Pero no importa! lo bueno es que ya puedo subir contenido a Youtube sin estresarme y jugar online (ahí si me estreso a veces pero no porque la PC funcione mal 😂)
Lo mejor de este mantenimiento fue que además de mi computadora estarlo necesitando bastante, me dio la idea de crear este Post, para compartir un poco con ustedes sobre este tema. Espero que les sirva si están teniendo algún problema similar o si simplemente quieren saber como es darle mantenimiento a una computadora de mesa.

Más adelante tengo pensado subir un blog hablando sobre cuales son las piezas de mi PC y como y donde las conseguí. Creo que será un post muy interesante ya que como vivo en CUBA no tengo acceso a mercados como Amazon y casi todas las compras se hacen de segunda mano, además las historias son para asombrarse (desde viajar más de 30km para buscar un SSD hasta casi ser estafado con un combo de RAM defectuoso). And after a few tests and a lot of use, I can affirm that to this day the error I had has not reappeared. What exactly was the problem? No idea 😐. I'm not going to get smart with you guys, most likely it was RAM or SSD dirt, but there would be no way to really know. But no matter! the good thing is that I can now upload content to Youtube without stressing and play online (there if I get stressed sometimes but not because the PC malfunctions 😂) The best thing about this maintenance was that besides my computer being needing it quite a lot, it gave me the idea to create this Post, to share a little with you on this topic. I hope it will be useful if you are having any similar problem or if you just want to know how is to maintain a desktop computer.

Later on I plan to upload a blog talking about which are the parts of my PC and how and where I got them. I think it will be a very interesting post because as I live in CUBA I don't have access to marketplaces like Amazon and almost all purchases are made second hand, plus the stories are to be amazed (from traveling more than 30km to look for a SSD to almost being scammed with a defective RAM combo).
