Working towards my bad habit
A bad habit that has become an ongoing struggle for me is procrastination. It first came to develop during my high school days as I often deferred assignments until the last minute and worked by cramming to get things done. That followed me into college and has now found its way into my adulthood, which causes me unnecessary stress and the production of substandard work.
The decision to up my game was enforced by the bad fruits my procrastination yielded. I found myself under pressure, rushing to finish things, staying up long nights, and feeling like I had everything that needed to be done at once. With time, I discovered that this habit was placing boundaries on my potential, not forgetting that it had a toll on my mental and physical well-being. I could see how it was hurting some of the relationships in my life as well as the ability to enjoy leisure time without the shadow of deadlines.
To beat procrastination, I have engaged various strategies that keep me steering clear from it. One of the best strategies has been breaking down tasks into smaller, manageable nuggets. As such, I am able to see the progress that I am making and overcome that sense of being overwhelmed by the task at hand. Also, I have become more conscious about keeping a planner where I organize all of my daily activities and set deadlines in advance.
Another tool that has been of assistance in combating procrastination is practicing mindfulness while making sure that I stay present with whatever it is that I am doing at that moment. Diverting my focus to the task at hand and avoiding distractions would work even faster and smarter. I have also intentionally tried to do things like self-care breaks than just push through and then totally burn out in the end.
Though it is quite difficult to get rid of the procrastination habit, I have already begun to notice changes in my productivity and well-being. I constantly work towards my goals, giving myself the motivation and direction to be stuck on getting results
