The most distant and oldest signal ever detected

The team of international scientists from the Paranal observatory in the city of Taltal Chile, has detected a remote burst of cosmic radio waves with the Very Large Telescope (VLT) of the European Southern Observatory, which has lasted only one millisecond, this Fast radio burst or FRB (fast radio burst) is the most distant and oldest ever detected.

This remote explosion comes from an original galaxy so far away that its light has taken 8 billion years to reach Earth, that is twice the age of the solar system.

This fast radio burst is also one of the most energetic ever observed, in a small fraction of a second it released the equivalent of the total emission of our sun for 30 years. We still do not know what causes these massive explosions of energy, but the Researchers confirm that fast radio bursts are common events in the cosmos and that perhaps we can use them to better understand the structure of the universe since they could be used to measure the supposedly missing matter.

A matter that according to some astronomers can be found in intergalactic space, but that is found in a very diffuse way, these fast radio bursts can ionize, that intergalactic matter to put a simile, would be similar to the headlights of a distant car that illuminate in its path a fog bank.
