The core of the Earth is not Solid.

This research was carried out at the University of Southern California, and was published on February 10 in the journal Nature Geoscience. The core is located 4828 km below the surface of the Earth. The inner core is anchored in the center by gravity and is surrounded by the outer core, which is made of molten liquid metal. The original objective of the scientists was not to know if it was molten or solid. the rest of the planet rotates.

But as lead researcher John Vidale said, while analyzing decades-old seismograms, a huge set of seismic wave data, he realized he was looking at evidence that the inner core is not solid. This study used seismic wave data from 121 repeated earthquakes at 42 locations near the South Sandwich Islands in Antarctica, earthquakes that occurred between 1991 and 2024.

When the researchers analyzed the waveforms of those earthquakes, but captured from another point from the edge of the planet, in Alaska they had a vision, it is like having a kind of sonar. The earthquake occurs near Antarctica and those waves cross the entire planet, including the core of the planet, and they can be captured in Alaska and with that data you can have an idea, a vision of what the interior of the planet is like.

This is going to change the textbooks if confirmed, the inner core is not totally solid as was thought until now, the researchers affirm that the most probable cause of the structural change that the inner and outer core is undergoing right now is that the outer core turns out to be turbulent, it is like a real ocean according to these researchers and that turbulence of that ocean of molten metal is disturbing the inner core and all this is important because both the inner and outer core are fundamental for the existence of the earth's protective magnetic field, you already know that there is a concern about the reversal of the magnetic poles, on whether the magnetic field may change one day or perhaps soon or perhaps not in the distant future.

We are not aware of how this type of inversion of magnetic fields works, but they occur, nor are we aware of whether there is any type of pattern or cycle, because it is quite irregular, it can also affect, among other curious things, the length of the days, so this research must be taken into account a lot.
