The Chapea 2 mission.

On November 17, NASA announced that the Chapea 2 mission would begin on October 19, this is because the United States government was closed and NASA did not do any public activities, nor many things that NASA normally does until the United States government opened.

In reality, the mission began on September 5 to be precise, although these images that we have seen of people entering, the four crew members or members of the mission, it was on October 19, these four members entered the habitat that reproduces a Martian base, it is in the center of the Johnson Space center in Houston in Texas.

They will be there within a year, until October 2026, the United States government went into shutdown on October 1 due to lack of budget approval, due to the debate between Republicans and Democrats and they solved it, despite the fact that this stoppage was the longest in history. There have been others, but this one has broken the record, 43 days, this closure did not affect it at all, on October 19 these people entered there and the normal mission began.

NASA was stopped, there were only 20% of NASA employees for emergency things and essential things, such as maintaining the services and operation of the people who were on the international space station, these approximately 3,000 NASA employees doing those essential tasks or the tasks for example of space weather, space weather depends on satellite communications and a lot of services that can be affected if there is no space weather report, this turns out to be within the essentials.

These people could not have waited to end the government shutdown and start the mission and enter, in fact, NASA considered this mission essential and it is Chapea 2, that is, a year ago there was another one and normally they are like other missions that we see from Mars, they are simulations where equipment is tested, extreme situations are tested.

My criticism is if you want to carry out an operation of this type, I would do it in Antarctica, first because of the isolation and second because of the temperatures, there you are not going to reproduce temperature issues and that is essential for certain operations, perhaps you are going to work with drones, you are going to work with equipment, but in the climate of Texas it is not the same as in a climate like the one that will exist on Mars with temperatures of 50º below 0 or less, that will not be discussed.

And there are a lot of other issues that are not going to be discussed either or issues that are already starting to become a bit repetitive because missions, simulations of these and there have been a lot, but the question that infuriates me is, why is this mission essential when we don't know when the mission to take humans to Mars will be? There is no date, it will be in the next decade, but there is really no clear date and much less no date to know when a Mars base is going to be installed.

Why was this mission essential and not reporting or publishing the material on 3I/Atlas? Why wasn't it essential when so many people were asking for it? when even a congresswoman, Congresswoman Luna and Áviloev, were asking for it, but many people were concerned about the issue, they wanted information, they wanted to know what data NASA had, they wanted explanations from NASA, from NASA experts to dispel doubts and I'm talking about millions of people and specifically in the United States, millions of taxpayers because NASA works with public money.
