The asteroid 2024 BX1 that exploded in the skies over Berlin.

There is new data regarding the explosion of an asteroid over the skies of Germany. This small asteroid, which is estimated to be about 1 meter in diameter, exploded on Sunday, January 21, is named 2024 BX1 and was detected by the evaluation system of “scout” impact that managed to calculate where and when the asteroid was going to impact the earth's atmosphere.

Which has provided some very interesting data about the planetary defense capacity that we have, the time margin, this is new data, it was not 3 hours as initially said but only 95 minutes before the impact, it is a short time, but It is at least enough time to put the emergency services on alert.

The impact of a small asteroid similar to an aerial bombardment in wartime, by small we can understand less than 15 meters, was the estimated size of the asteroid that exploded over Chelyabinsk in Russia.

The only thing that can be done in those cases where small asteroids like the Chelyabinsk one are detected and it is known where it is going to enter the atmosphere, is to warn the population, taking into account that, even if there is only a margin of a few hours, it can be Warn the population not to look out of windows and to seek refuge in basements and garages.

Attempting an evacuation of a city with such little time would be impossible, the chaos can cause even more damage than the asteroid itself and it would also not be necessary, because small asteroids usually explode in the atmosphere, our beloved atmosphere protects us from this type of asteroids of less than 10 to 15 meters and in some cases only some rubble reaches the ground, but the problem is that the larger an asteroid is, the more impact it will have and the more damage it will do, but it has an advantage and that is that The bigger it is, the more time we will have to alert the population.

The asteroids known as potentially dangerous are those that are more than 150 m in diameter. These could do a lot of damage, they could easily devastate an entire city. We are talking about an event similar to that of Tunguska in Siberia, Russia in 1908 or even worse.

The point is that if we had a good detection system we could know days in advance, not hours, when and where that asteroid is going to impact, this one that has been located was only one meter long. Locating one of 150 meters should be much easier, with that time margin days in advance then an effective evacuation of the affected area could be carried out.

Other new information about Sunday's asteroid is that it exploded about 60 km west of Berlin and its glow could be seen from the Czech Republic. It is also believed that it may have scattered small meteorites on the ground in the impact area, so it surely This week a meteorite search campaign will be organized.
