Super Bolide is seen in the skies of the United States

Last Friday, in broad daylight, a super bolide was observed in the skies over the United States. If it had happened at night, that supercar would have illuminated the entire landscape in its path, like a small sun. Its trajectory through the atmosphere was bright enough to be perceived with the naked eye and with an intensity that surpassed the glow of the full moon. The car was first detected 77 kilometers from the city of Oxford in Georgia, it has been estimated that it was traveling at about 48,000 km per hour.

Normally super bolides are not large, according to the Spanish Society of Astronomy, an object 1 meter in diameter can create a brightness similar to or greater than that of the full moon and this may also depend on factors such as density and speed. Curiously, by definition, there is no upper limit of size, so the asteroid or comet that impacted in the north of the Yucatan about 66 million years ago could also be a super bolide, creating the Chicxulub crater of about 180 km in diameter and originating or putting an end to the era of the Navarrese dinosaurs and giant reptiles.

Souce

Fortunately, as I mentioned, they are usually small and explode in the atmosphere without causing damage, although in this case it seems that they did, as chief meteorologist Brad Nitz reports in this post on X that one of the fragments pierced the roof of a house. There is also something else quite disturbing: astronomers are beginning to warn that this fireball may be very special and that it would be very important to find more fragments of it, in addition to the one that hit that house, because it may be related to the Beta Taurid meteor shower.

This meteor shower reaches its peak intensity at the end of June. The Beta Taurids are the remains left behind by Comet 2P Encke, a short-period comet with a diameter of about 4.8 km, which approaches Earth every 33 years or so, although rest assured, these are safe passes. Based on current data, we know that the comet will not come within 20 million kilometers of us for the next few centuries, although it will be a spectacular sight and is expected to be visible to the naked eye again between 2026 and 2027.

Wow! What a "once in a lifetime"-show!
One can be lucky to spot a brighter "bolide" of the Perseids!

If, of course, we are in the reality of the possibilities, it is only a matter of time and luck to see it.
