A colony of dead fruit bats was discovered in early January 2018, mid-summer in the southern hemisphere, perishing due to unusually warm high temperatures, 400 of them were found lifeless under the trees, where they usually are, however, this could mean nothing compared to the summer of 2014 when approximately 45,000 fruit bats died from the high temperatures.

Conservationists described it as a kind of boil in their bodies, evidently these types of incidents were more common as time passed, unless the bats found a way to move to colder southern regions.

Another very similar but opposite incident is the fall of the iguanas in South Florida, in this case it was not the heat that was killing them, it was the unusually cold temperatures, another side effect of climate change that is expected to worsen in For the next several years, reptiles are cold-blooded so if they can't extract heat from the environment they leave at 4.4 degrees Celsius, any iguana that is hanging from the trees will lose their grip and fall unlike their flying counterparts the iguanas that they fall not always die.
