Space rescue mission

Space rescue mission

On Monday, November 25, China launched the rocket from the Chun Kanang satellite launch center and carrying the Shenzhou 22 spacecraft, Its objective was the Tiangong space station, the Chinese space station, the ship was without a crew for a very special reason and that was because it was a rescue mission, the first of its kind in the Chinese space program.

The Shenzhou 20 ship, which had gone into space before, suffered the impact of a piece of space debris, an impact that caused a crack in the ship's window. It was small, but worrying enough for those responsible to rule out the idea of using the ship to return the crew to Earth, so the safe return of the crew had to be guaranteed. China took the emergency measure of using the Shenzhou 21 ship, which was already on the international space station.

They put the crew there. of Shenzhou 20 and at that time the Chinese space station was going to be left without a lifeboat, that is why this ship, 22, was launched so that the station, those who remained there from mission 21 could return on this 22.

You have seen the movie “Gravity”, in that movie, the protagonist was immersed in Kessler syndrome, Kessler syndrome is a hypothesis that is getting closer every day of a moment where a satellite is destroyed for various reasons and its remains end up impacting other satellites that are destroyed and create more remains that are launched to destroy other satellites and thus a cascade effect until all the satellites, ships and space stations are destroyed and the Earth's orbit is rendered useless by all the shrapnel. that would be flying around.

It is a real syndrome and every day we are closer to it due to the number of satellites that are in those orbits, the experts say that it is not imminent, that we are entering a worrying situation, but not imminent, in the film it dealt with this topic, the protagonist arrived at the Chinese space station, the Chinese astronauts had returned to Earth in a ship, but they had left another.

In real life this does not happen because there is only one rescue ship that they use, that is, they use a ship to arrive and return in the same ship, which can give rise to this type of problems, if that ship is damaged by an impact of space debris, it turns out that those who are on the station are left without a ship to return, therefore, in China they are going to solve the issue by placing two ships, on the international space station there are always two ships docked.

Normally they tend to be Soyuz, which are very robust ships that have been operating for many years, not the same one. They are updating them, the Russians had out of necessity, due to the fall of the Soviet Union, they had to recycle their space program, so their ships are very resistant, very solid, but they follow the same line as the Soyuz, I say this because the United States does not do that, the United States tends a little more in a big way and at one point they ruled out the issue of this type of ships that are called space taxis, also ships that can take three or four astronauts to Earth orbit, which is where the space station, so they could reach it or do research work.

They left that type of ships and opted for the space shuttle, extremely expensive, extremely complex and which had two terrifying disasters, in the end they closed the issue of the space shuttle and the United States was left without ships to send astronauts to space, something tremendous, NASA spent I think 12 or 15 years without having a ship to send astronauts to space, it had to pay Russia a ticket on a Soyuz to send astronauts to the international space station.

The American astronauts had to learn Russian to know in case of emergency they could use the ship, the manuals or anything, normally a Russian was on the ship, but if he got sick or something happened, the American astronauts had to know how to communicate in Russian.

This is how things are, a space rescue and now they are going to change, they are going to have two ships to avoid these types of problems, but the problem of Kessler syndrome is real, there are millions of small objects in orbit right now. They are a problem, a very big problem that is increasing.

I think this is the first time this has happened in space, right?

No, it is not the first accident in space, several have occurred throughout history.
