Possible explanations for the case of the Lost Stars

Possible explanations for the case of the Lost Stars

We are located in the 1950s, at the Monte Palomar observatory in California, researchers were monitoring possible comets and asteroids and to do so they took photographs in sequences, they took the first photograph and 56 minutes later the cluster of three central stars had disappeared, To date there is no explanation for what happened at that time, there are only indications of a possible event to explain the phenomenon.

Some researchers speculate that the object is still visible but that it has changed its position and that is why we do not see it in the photos that were taken after its first sighting. They would be stars that either travel very fast or that are close to us and apparently It seems to move very fast, they are known as objects with high self-motion and can currently be discovered thanks to the Gaia space observatory.

The case of the three fast-moving stars is a rare case, but three stars moving fast together would be something extraordinary, although this is not the circumstance since the trio of stars does not appear in any of the photos that were taken. of the neighboring regions of where they were when they were seen for the first time, from here we enter the field of strange explanations, a possibility of disappearance of stars, although it would be very difficult to understand what happened with these three stars of Monte palomar, This is the case of the process called failed supernova. This issue is still a hypothesis that has not yet been proven, but it is suspected that some massive stars with more than 30 times the mass of the Sun can collapse directly into a black hole, without going through the phase of supernova, if we could contemplate an event of this type it would be something extraordinary and extremely curious.

We would see how the enormous bright star sinks into absolute darkness and how it completely disappears from our sight without exploding, as if swallowed by a cosmic drain. At the moment it is a theoretical possibility and astronomers still do not understand how such a process can be triggered and come back. To the point, it could be one star, but three at the same time.

Another explanation in the case of these three stars from Monte Palomar is that if in reality what we see as three stars were only one, the light from a distant star can be greatly enlarged and distorted by the effect of a gravitational lens that divides the light. In three foci, a gravitational lens is produced when a large mass distorts space-time with its gravity and acts as a powerful lens. Our sun has enough mass to create this effect and is capable of bending the light of stars that pass close to it. It was thanks to this effect that it was shown that Albert Einstein was right with his general theory of relativity, although to see this distortion we had to wait for the eclipse that occurred in Africa on May 29, 1919, but a star could not have caused the effect of the three mysterious stars, to begin with because it should have also been in the photo and we don't see anything.

Dark matter does not serve as an explanation for us either because although it also creates gravitational lenses, it does so on an enormous scale, on a Galactic scale, so it had to be something very dense and invisible, a black hole, a black hole could be the explanation, a black hole could have caused this distortion by expanding the light of a very distant star and dividing its light into three foci, although there is a disturbing point and that is that if the effect disappeared in less than an hour it means that the movement of that black hole through the cosmos is appreciable and therefore cannot be too far away, not in our solar system because its mass would be much greater than that of the Sun and could cause all the planets and the Sun itself to orbit around it.

But it could be only a few light years away, although there is another problem, if it were like this for years we should be seeing a trail of ghost stars that appear and disappear according to the black hole and the gravitational lens that it creates as it moves forward, a variant of this Another option would be that the black hole was much further away so it would still be in the same place in the sky as in the 1950s. Although we cannot see it today and what happened was that its gravitational lensing effect magnified an event. distant, perhaps the explosion of a star that occurred behind it many thousands or tens of thousands of light years away, although we encountered another problem and that is that the brightness of nova or supernova explosions lasting weeks or months could not fade in a matter of minutes.

Truly, this mystery of the three stars is very complicated and at this moment some of you may be thinking of something even more amazing, and if the explanation is a dyson sphere, the dyson spheres are a hypothetical megastructure proposed in 1960 by the physicist Freeman Dyson, was based on an idea from a science fiction novel from the 1930s.

This sphere would consist of an artificial structure or a swarm of structures or ships that surrounded a star to capture its energy. One of the hundreds of missing stars may have been covered by a dyson sphere. It is an option, although it would be strange for any potential extraterrestrial civilization would have finished its colossal project in just a few dozen years, the logical thing would be for us to see how the star dims its brightness until it disappears, although I already say that it is an option and radio telescopes can be focused on those missing stars to try to search technosignatures, such as radio signals.

Although returning to the mystery of the Monte Palomar Stars, it cannot be a dyson sphere, whatever happened, it happened to three stars at the same time and in a matter of minutes, what is the solution to this Enigma, is still unknown and It is a headache for researchers, perhaps the explanation is something else, perhaps something more extraordinary.
