Latin America is full of talent, and the world knows it, because there are thousands of Latinos giving their best, in different countries and institutions, and on this occasion we are speaking at NASA; getting there is not easy, NASA is a renowned institution; I continue to congratulate Colombian Lili Villarreal, who has recently been appointed as NASA's new director of splashdown and recovery operations for the Artemis 2 mission.
It is not the first time that a Latino has arrived at NASA, but it is a position with a lot of responsibility because it will be the first manned mission of the Artemis program and its objective will be to take Humans to lunar orbit and finalize all the details for the Artemis 3 mission in which we will see humans on the surface of the moon again.
The Artemis 2 mission is scheduled to be launched in May 2024, although it is suspected that it will end up being delayed until the end of that same year. Lili Villarreal was born in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia; when she was 10 her family moved to Florida, and I imagine she would watch many NASA Spacecraft launches from her home, inspiring her to reach just as high, she has a bachelor of science and master of aerospace engineering from georgia institute of technology and He joined NASA in 2007.
