Italy first country to ban synthetic “meat”

At the beginning of the year they announced that scientists had managed to grow mammoth meat. In theory, the new techniques can be applied to any animal cell and are supposedly projected as one of the great food industries of the future.

In short, synthetic “meat” or industrial “meat”, all in quotes for obvious reasons, are grown in bioreactors initially with stem cells from a specific animal, these multiply in the appropriate medium and with the optimal supply of nutrients. ; After a period of time, a biomass is obtained, this is processed and seasoned with additives to obtain a texture similar to real meat and finally it is shaped depending on the presentation you want to look for, whether it is fillet, nuggets or any other shape. to market it.

But not enough time has passed, the respective studies and the necessary regulations that this new technology entails, and fortunately the Italian government has seen the risk and has banned laboratory or industrial “meat” in order to protect the rich agri-food heritage. of the nation, based on the so-called Mediterranean diet.

And clearly the manufacture of synthetic meats is a threat to traditional or natural foods and shows it as a solution to a problem that does not exist.

The Italian Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida declared on social networks the following “in defense of the health of the Italian production system of thousands of jobs and our culture and tradition with the law that we approve today Italy is the first nation in the world to be safe from the social and economic dangers of synthetic foods.”

Only two countries have approved the production and marketing of cultured “meat”, the United States and Singapore, and affirm that it is suitable for human consumption; however, this has not been proven and is possibly harmful and because it is new technology, there is no strict regulatory laws and investors know it.

The growing adoption of on-the-go lifestyles has fueled the growing demand for snack products and frozen products like chicken nugget, chicken nugget was until now a food made partially from chicken meat usually minced and coated with breadcrumbs, a Sometimes chicken skin, visors, crushed bones, fats, veins, nerves or cartilage and their corresponding mixture of additives were added. Now the mass would be grown in a laboratory.

Good for Italy.

Syntethic meat is nothing more that lab grew cells, they are totally a "clone" of real meat but not coming from an entire animal, there is a lot of future. In my opinion is the same prejudice that is dumb that people fight against transgenics.

Science should focus on the understanding of nature and not the replacement of nature. Grass fed beef is still one of the best sources of protein.

Attempts at creating artificial oils and manufactured food appears to have lead to insulin resistance and obese nations.
