Interstellar objects very close to us.

Interstellar objects very close to us.

American astrophysicists have raised a question, if the Earth's orbit has been able to catch interstellar visitors, this does not mean that they are orbiting the earth, it refers to the orbit that the earth runs around the sun, which is an ellipse of about 930 million kilometers and that our planet takes 365 days and almost 6 hours to travel.

The point is that in that orbit where the earth has settled quietly for billions of years, it is possible that some interstellar object may have also settled, because we already know that in that area there are some asteroids that must be watched, since they they may be a potential impact risk to our planet, but it is possible that some of them did not come from the solar system, that some of them came from beyond another star.

The study that is in the news now applied numerical simulations, analyzed the efficiency of Jupiter in capturing interstellar objects and compared that efficiency with that of the earth-moon system in order to capture them, the authors obtained something that seems obvious Jupiter is 10,000 times more efficient in capturing objects that it comes beyond the solar system and its gravity would place them in the region where the centaurs are.

Which is what a type of asteroid located between Jupiter and Saturn with fairly unstable orbits is called, Jupiter beats us in this but the interstellar objects captured by Jupiter turn out to be more unstable, scientists have calculated that on average they end in only 150,000 years being expelled from the solar system and back down among the stars, however, those captured by the earth-moon system have a half-life of about 130,000 years.

The study revealed that with current technology, at least one or two of these objects captured in near-Earth orbit could be detected, with a minimum size of between 50 and 70 meters, this does not mean that there is one that is larger. conclusion if we want to study an interstellar object we would not need to go out and chase a new one that reaches the solar system we can search among the asteroids close to our planet because perhaps a visitor from a distant star has been among them for a long time.
