Habitability conditions in Mercury

Scientists from the Planetary Science Institute based in Tucson, Arizona, United States have discovered evidence of possible salt glaciers on Mercury, which they say opens a new frontier of astrobiology by revealing a volatile environment where there could be literally habitable conditions even if only in places as extreme as mercury.

These glaciers at the North Pole of Mercury are different from those on Earth. They originate from layers rich in volatiles, deeply buried and exposed by asteroid impacts. When I talk about volatiles, I'm not just talking about water, I'm talking about materials that can end up volatilizing from the sun.

The researchers' models state that the salt flow probably occurred in these glaciers and that their emplacement ended up retaining the volatiles for more than 1 billion years, according to the researchers. These areas could potentially act as “Goldilocks” zones. ”depending on the depth.

The “Goldilocks” zones, as astrobiologists call them, are in the right zone, neither too close to their star to burn nor too far from their star to freeze, they are in the right zone to maintain liquid water on their surface and maintain habitable conditions.

Zone of habitation applied to mercury, where the day temperature is 430 degrees positive and at night - 180 degrees is to apply it according to these researchers to special areas that may have preserved habitable conditions but below the surface of mercury, it would already be a One of the strangest news of the week and month, if confirmed, it would be a very curious discovery of habitable conditions in Mercury.
