For the first time in history, samples of the far side of the moon.

Souce

The Chinese space agency has just informed us (on June 4) of its Changa 6 mission, this takeoff from the Hidden Side of the Moon, bringing for the first time in history lunar samples from the side that we never see from Earth, specifically from The Aitken basin, at the south pole of the moon, this place will be highly valued due to the large reserves of water found there.

The diameter of the Aitken basin formed by a crater is 2,500 km in diameter and a depth of up to 12 km and among the strange things that are in it, it is known that under its floor there is a large metallic mass that is supposed to be the remains of the core of the giant asteroid that impacted the moon about 3.9 billion years ago.

This means that in the soil of that place there are minerals that under normal conditions should be inside the moon, many hundreds of kilometers deep. The Chinese themselves, in a previous Changa 4 mission, discovered elements on the surface that Under normal conditions they should be at that depth, they should be in the mantle of the moon.

The Changa 6 mission is going perfectly, it was launched on May 3, it arrived at its destination on June 2, the robot arm and the lander's driller collected the samples that are expected to be approximately 2 kg, they loaded those samples into the launcher. which goes inside the lander and is basically a mini rocket whose mission is to put the capsules with the samples into lunar orbit.

Let us remember that the gravity of the moon is six times lower, so a large space rocket is not needed to also put only 2 kg into orbit, the launcher or ascender as literally translated from Chinese fulfilled its mission, and is currently in The operation of docking with the returner, which is the ship that must take the capsule with the lunar samples to Earth, all of this has an added difficulty, since it occurs on the hidden side of the moon and therefore there is no direct communication with the moon. Earth, this has been solved by the Chinese thanks to the Queqiao-2 communications satellite.

Thanks to the Queqiao-2 satellite they have been able to coordinate all the operations of this mission; If everything that remains to be developed from this mission goes well, the samples will arrive towards the end of June, landing Siziwang Banner in Inner Mongolia.

What things can these samples tell us about that intriguing area of the moon? The Aitken Basin can reveal some mystery about that metallic mass that is hidden beneath the surface.
