First evidence of molecules in Ateorides

Could the essential molecules for life to arise on earth arrive on board comets and asteroids, well it seems so.

The Japanese spacecraft Hayabusa 2 collected 5.4 grams of material from the surface and subsoil of the asteroid Ryugu in 2019, a material that it managed to bring to earth on December 5, 2020, since then Japanese researchers have been analyzing the samples and the latest finding has been the detection of 20 amino acids.

It is the first evidence that these essential organic molecules for life can exist on asteroids, which has huge implications for understanding how organic molecules came to earth.

The finding is very important, because it is true that on earth we have meteorites from asteroids, but from the outset it turns out that they suffer from the effect of high temperatures as they pass through the atmosphere and then, upon impact, they are immediately contaminated with terrestrial material, for making it very difficult for scientists to know if the molecules found in the meteorites were already present in the original asteroid or are of terrestrial origin.

This does not happen with the Ryugu sample, because the material that the Japanese have brought is original material virgin material from this asteroid that is about 850 meters in diameter and that is actually a carbon-rich fragment of another asteroid that was much larger. great.
