One of the problems we have in explaining the universe, this universe in which we live, is that it seems to be governed in two completely different ways, on the one hand we have the realm of the very small, where quantum mechanics seems to govern and on the other hand We have the macroscopic realm of the things we see, from us to the Stars and black holes where Einstein's theory of general relativity seems to govern, specifically the one that explains gravity through the curvature of space-time.


But these two theories are in contradiction and for more than a century scientists have not been able to unify them, how is it possible that we and the stars are limited by physical laws, but the atomic particles that make up both us and the Stars are governed by other, different and sometimes contradictory laws.

Now a team of physicists from University College London says they have achieved this unification and have expressed it in two articles published simultaneously in two scientific journals, announcing in them a new and radical theory that seems capable of consistently unifying gravity and mechanics. quantum physics while preserving Einstein's concept of space-time.


The predominant assumption, what scientists tried until now to try to unify these two theories, thought that Einstein's theory of gravity had to be modified, it had to be adapted, it had to be "quantized" so to speak, so that it fit within quantum theory.


This is the approach of two of two very popular theories, at least among physicists, one is string theory and gravity and the other is loop quantum gravity, they think that to unify them it would be necessary to modify Einstein's theory and make it adapt it to quantum mechanics. But this new theory takes an alternative approach, suggesting that space-time may be classical, meaning that it is not governed by quantum theory at all, as Albert Einstein defined it in its pure state.

Instead of modifying space-time, this theory, which is called post-quantum theory of classical gravity, modifies quantum theory and predicts that there is an intrinsic break in predictability through space-time itself. This is a bit complex, to summarize it, this would result in there being random and violent fluctuations in space-time at the microscopic level. Of course, at the subatomic level those fluctuations are greater than predicted in quantum theory, making the apparent weight of objects unpredictable if measured. with sufficient prediction.


Good theories must propose experiments to be able to verify them and this one proposes making mass measurements with Ultra precision and seeing if these measurements vary over time, that would roughly be able to explain this quite complex theory.
